I'm talking about these bad boys: https://products.butterflylabs.com/

Lots of delays releasing them out into the wild, and lots more speculation about them being legit.

The 5GH/s is actually low enough in cost for me to impulse buy, but I'm naturally weary of buying anything that's not actually out yet.

Ooh, had they been only $175? I had gotten into bitcoin mining several years ago and have been out of the loop for quite some time.

I'd always thought custom integrated circuits would be the way to go.

Please do let us know when it arrives, would love to get confirmation it's legit!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they haven't shipped any. From what I understand, they have changed the ship date several times, and are now over a year behind schedule.

They are way behind schedule, but far less than a year behind. Their first (broken) deadline was October, 2012 as I recall.

There is a thread showing known outstanding orders. You'll see many familiar names there.

I would not trust them at all. Its very likely that they are an elaborate scam. Please get a refund while you still can. They can run away with your money any minute. Just buy AFTER someone reports receiving a unit.
