I recently found out that there used to be a Bitcoin Wallet app for iOS, but it was banned by apple for no apparent reason. :/ It really sucks. If I could buy and sell bitcoins using my iPhone, for IRL transactions, it'd be a LOT easier. AS much as I like android, I really like iOS's stability. It just works, and it never crashes. (for me)

Anyone know of any alternative? Honestly I think it should be reposted on cydia.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Apple doesn't say (as far as I know), but a possible explanation is given in this opinion piece on Forbes
http://www.forbes.com/sites/jonmatonis/2012/06/13/why-apple-is-afraid-of-bitcoin/

Basically, it boils down to this. Apple realizes that, with their current installed base of 400 million active credit card details, the mobile payments war at the point of sale is largely theirs to lose. Why complicate the strategy by offering competing currencies and competing systems on the iPhone platform? If Apple can facilitate proprietary mobile payments successfully, it can undoubtedly spur demand for more Apple products.

The original Blockchain app (https://blockchain.info/wallet/iphone-app) was able to act as a wallet and is still available for jailbroken iOS devices on Cydia. It is also open source, so if you have an Apple developer account you can build it yourself.

Apple hates everything.  They don't even like their own customers enough to make their phones last longer than a couple of years.

Bitcoin is 'open' and Apple is not... Reason is control.  Can't make enough money on it or it threatens proprietary bus plans.

Don't you know, Apple hates Bitcoin.

Not just bitcoin. Their developer rules prohibit apps that trade in any virtual currency.  It fits with their general strategy of trying to force all e-commerce through iTunes where they get a 30% cut. The only way around the restriction is to use the web browser, which they can't reasonably limit.

That's the crippled version. They removed the wallet functionality to get it accepted.

I can access my wallet with it and have the option to send funds - maybe it works if you create your account via the web site first as I did.

or maybe I have an old version but I only downloaded it like a month ago.

+1

Apple is simply pure evil. They have always been worse than Microsoft. They always will be.

But Android is NOT the answer to an open system. Yeah, it's better, but not much.

Android presents the ILLUSION of an open system, but if you dig deeper, your phone isn't open.

Bitcoin is antithetical to everything Apple, and is a threat to the Android ecosystem as it is now. Android presents better options, but... those are mostly unrealistic.
