" Eight men have the same wealth as 3.6 billion of the world's poorest people..... "

It is time for the rich people of the world to gather in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland from 17-20 January 2017. The Chinese president Xi Jinping will also attend this meeting. During this meeting < expensive food & leisure accommodation >  Tongue a lot of hot topics will be discussed, like the struggling/dying middle class and unbalanced distribution of wealth.

I was just wondering if Bitcoin as a possible solution to this problem, should be discussed at these meeting. Bitcoin can solve the problem with the billions of unbanked people and high banking fees and also distribution of wealth via micro tasks/payments.

Would this once again, be a platform to make empty promises, where rich people gather to wine and dine at the expense of the poor?

Its hard to know since we dont have a knowledge beforehand about what will be the topic on the event. If they tackles bitcoin or not we do not know for now but after the meeting some news will make an article about it and if bitcoin was discussed bitcoin news will not let this scoop go. But I do hope they include bitcoins if it is one of the solutions in facing the issue on poverty.

bitcoin is just a tool, another currency if you will. and it can not perform magic. so no i don't think bitcoin has any place in this gathering and discussion.

p.s. the first thing that came to my mind when reading Davos was Ser Davos Seaworth, the Onion Knight of GoT Grin

People are the problem, not the bitcoin, FIAT or any other asset. Fiat in its concept is fine as long as it is used correctly, quantitative easing is what made it bad.
Printing money and devaluation of fiat is the main reason fiat money become synonym of corrupted economic elites.

Bitcoin can't help poor people any more that any other currency. Only people can. Do you think that these rich oligarchs will share their wealth? Dream on.

It would be good if one of the topics of this meeting is Bitcoin, maybe Chinese president says a few words about it because Bitcoin is quite popular in his country, but I do not believe that there could be words about BTC.

Between Pre-Meeting Press Conference and Welcome Message by the Executive Chairman there is session about progress in treating cancer, but there is also The Future of the Digital Economy and The Future of Finance sessions, there would be certainly opportunities for discussion about Bitcoin and blockchain technology.

But as you said, most of time they will just eating, drinking and give false promises.

Should Bitcoin be discussed in Davos?

These people are power-hungry and could care less about you or me. If they became involved, you can be sure it would mean more controls and less freedom.

I doubt very much that bitcoin will be discussed at Davos, the market cap is just not big enough i dont think they even see bitcoin coming.  it will be a complete surprise when it does.

Would you rather have less freedom and more equal re-distribution of wealth or more freedom and widespread poverty? We will have to sacrifice the one for the other. We already made these sacrifices with regulated exchanges. We adhere to the Kyc/Aml regulations of these exchanges and then sacrifice your anonymity.

I hope Bitcoin gets mentioned and then discussed informally between the representatives of these countries and people start to take notice.

Bitcoin can make a positive contribution towards the reduction of global poverty. ^hmmmmm^

This is a false dichotomy. The reality is that where the most freedom is, the average poverty level is lower. For example, the poor in the US are rich when compared to the poor in countries with less freedom, such as the leftist redistributionist countries in South America which are failing because of their policies.

Funny how most mega-rich are leftists (Soros, Buffet, Gates, 95% entertainment industry, etc.) who preach redistribution. If they really believed that, they wouldn't be the top of the 1% because their wealth would be redistributed. But they're still at the top. Redistribution schemes hurt only the working middle class to make them more toward the lower class, making them both poorer.

I think they will discuss terrorism, international security and maybe Trump,it doesn`t matter that Davos is an "economic forum".I can`t imagine that they will talk about cryptos and blockchain.

Redistribution schemes hurt only the working middle class to make them more toward the lower class, making them both poorer.

They are also the individuals who are giving away most of their wealth. < Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation > The billionaires have given away over $29 billion — more money than anyone in the history of humanity — more than $8  billion of which was dedicated to improving global health.

Over 95 percent of Gates’ vast wealth goes to the Foundation, the organization will spend all of it within 20 years after he and Melinda are gone.

So there are exceptions to the rule. ^smile^

I'm fine with people making free choices to give away some or all of their money. That's a great thing. It's when people are forced to part with their money, history shows time and time again that it's a route to poverty and oppression.

You are dreaming. BTC is just another form of currency. Some consider it as another form of commodity like gold. It will only be as good as the user that wields it. If we really wanted to solve such a problem, there will be no need for BTC to do it. What we all need to do as humans is control our greed.

People attending this meeting are the ones behind the actual crisis. Bitcoin being invented to counter-attack this crisis, making them getting interested in Bitcoin has absolutely no interest, and we would be just wasting our time. Moreover, good luck to get a journalist willing to ask this question for us !

Thats true. This is something like a magic pony show for the people made by the ones who caused the crisis themselves. The one suggesting that BTC should be discussed is very naive. He is either a 40 year old man with a mind of a 14 year old or is actually 14 years old. Lets all wake up and find out what BTC is really good for.

That might be their view not, but trust me that will change eventually.

They know that the system is doomed to collapse. All the fake derivatives and the scams that happen in banking will all collapse, and then they will be the ones to lose all the money.

So they know that the only way they can keep their wealth is if they move to some sort of decentralized platform that is self contained from banking instabilities.

So I bet most big guys already have some investments in Bitcoin. I think all banks and fund managers will eventually realize the usefullness of it.

getting rich people together never = positive for the poor.
all they will do is find ways to mak money out of th poor but advertise it like they are 'helping'

until bitcoins average mainnet (onchain) tx fee is fixed (dont even bother saying LN's commercial service is the cure) bitcoin is not suitable for undeveloped countries where 5-20cents= hours of labour in those countries.

again dont try to pretend LN's commercial hubs is the cure. because its not.
and dont try to say the LN's multi-hop is the cure because its not.

LN has a small niche and is not suitable for all users.
