OK, I am new to these forums, but not new to bitcoin or using bitcoin.

I want to find out, step by step, how one goes about cloning bitcoin. My understanding is that you must change the header, change the ports, create a genesis block, and recompile.

Is there any guide out there that explains how to do this? Help a newbie out.

Why would you even wanna do that?

Why not? You can make your own currency that you can use for a game or with friends or in some organization. Could be fun. Cheesy

Exactly. I want to have my own coins, both for practical and intellectual stimulation.

I see. This is a newbie ghetto, and there is no way of having this seen by anyone that knows anything about the bitcoin protocol.
