What 2fa software were you using? Authy? Google Authenticator? Something else? (Btw, dev and tech seems like the wrong section).  And what website is this for?

I am unsure, but you should always save the 2FA key on paper as I do so you can resetup the accounts on a new phone without the hassle. Good lad for using 2FA, always do it.

I have Google Authenticator on my phone and I found no way to transfer/backup the info out of it. But my phone is also not rooted.

The only way I found to "backup" such info is at the original website offering 2FA: when you activate the 2FA and get the key, you usually can see the private/seed for your 2FA codes. That's the one you should save.
Some sites offer only a seed to disable the 2FA, that is also fine for emergencies.

PS. This thread should be renamed 2FA instead of 2AF and maybe moved into technical area.

I use "Authy". You'll need to set it up using your phone number and a master password.
Your data will get synced with your other devices / new device. They also got a desktop version.

Some services have a full Authy integration, but you can also import Google Authentificator codes there.

Friendly Regards
