Making sure you know what unit you are using when sending btc's.

I'm a newbie, but do have some btc's in a multibit wallet.   I'm about to make my first purchase and the instructions says

"make sure you know what unit you are using"

So do I have to work out with the seller what unit?  Right now it's set at MB, but I see there is Xbt or BTC so I'm getting confused.

I'm sure it's simple but I'm confused.   I see there are so many conversion options and unit options.

People usualy state a price in BTC unless noted otherwise.

Thanks.  I'm confused specifically with multibit. It set itself up as mB (bitcoin B).   And the amount it shows me seems to corresponde with what I see on Coinbase.

When I change the display to BTC, (one of many options)  it completely changes the amount which is where I'm getting confused.   Can someone advise specfically for Multidbit HD what to use on the display?

Id use BTC. mBTC is milliBitcoin[1] or 1/1000 BTC. It should just move the separator if you change it.

Thanks. Did that.   Messing with my mind.   I'll check out the german link.  I was horrible at math so this is just killing me and so much to understand.
