I would go in a completely different direction. Their service is very good and reputable, hard to compete with them. I think this exchange market is already very saturated, better to try another business.

You have the point and i think starting a unique business is the best to try because if you made a business that can be trending by people and bitcoin user i am sure you can gain more than how much trader in poloniex. but not every time that you will success in business it is still depends in your manage and how you are promoting it.. if you are just promoting in one place like in some release site in service announcement but they are not starting campaign for more information you can only get few visitors.. more impression more visitors will come..

I shouldn't comment about it. Completely we must still inside of the exchange business section. If you're offering the other kind of service and I can't call it to compete with polo. But eth already makes the name of polo being so big.
Too difficult to compete with the major market with a lot of demand in there.
I just can do the best for that.
Make a new innovation and this will push your service more and more.

Without mentioning the UI part which is probably the best among all exchanges , you should compete when It comes to the fees , security should be your first priority , coins shouldn't be listed just like that otherwise you will lose credibility as a lot of people will lose their money , A referral program that not much exchange offer it could also work to bring a lot of users.

Actually it depends on what kind of business would you like to invest and if you do have the passion of having an exchange site then you should proceed and dont mind about poloniex just focus on the things you should do when you ran an exchange site.Reputation is not being built for a short period of time only.It would really takes years just like poloniex i admit its really hard to compete with them but rather than on thinking of that thing better to focus on the service you would give to the users of your exchange site.

Food for thought, guys. Once Crypsty was number one and then there was Mintpal, Bittrex had a chance but blew it. Poloniex was home to Monero and then Etherium. It is hard to move the traders of the mentioned coins. Best to look out for the next multimillion cap coin.

If your attitude is "You can't beat Poloniex," then you already lost. Bitfinex was number one BTCUSD trading, now it's Bitmex. The Bitmex owners are very very active in the community.

And least of all security. Polo if I remember had been hacked too and that your exchange must be secured. One thing that you may offer is partner up with a token that offers insurance, I believe Inchain wasn't successful but if one day a team will try to develop, it could help your success.

And also, promote yours of course. Make a huge campaign and talk shit about Polo

Well you are right and you do have some points since  every exchanger do have its own strengths in a particular field but we could really see that poloniex is the top regarding on trading activities and most coins with huge volume does really being traded. Thinking of the thing that we cant beat poloniex cant really be remove on ourselves because you could already witness their service.

Pononiex was hacked in 2014. They lost around 12% of its Bitcoins so their reputation is not as pristine clear as many of you think.

They are not listing coins right away because they are also concern about their reputation and thats also the reason why most big traders are there since most of the alt coins which is listed are moving very well, for OP if i will compete with polo i will add dice game like yobit did because i know theres a lots of traders who also like to gamble while waiting for their coins to rise up.

I couldn't agree more with you dude. Creating business should be original and even if wanna more striking than others you should make any innovative business plan. Make newest features in trading which can make the user easier to use your trading site.I think it's will effective.

its very hard to compete with poloniex since they are will establish and gained the trust of people already, but if you desired to run a exchanger by yourself well go for it aslong as you have big budget since competing with poloniex will surely cost you a lot of money, and also you should not be late for the latest coin who's been newly created at this point, and also to be more appealing i suggest that you should add a news about happenings to your site so people would track and see some pointers on what is happening on their bag hold tokens.

A considered top exchange that already established a good name in the world of cryptocurrency will never list all altcoins in an instant. Poloniex have standard that coins must have in order to be listed in their exchange.

That's why as you can see, once the coins was listed in Poloniex, it will turned that coin into a stable one that worth to trade. While having such features like that, they are also delisting coins that doesn't established a decent volume in a certain period of time which is good for altcoin traders to stay away from those coins that will turned to a shit one.
