What happens to lost coins on any kind of cryptocurrency?

Let's say I have lost access to 1000 DOGE on a paper wallet, will that amount get burned out of the total supply of Dogecoin over time?

Just asking because I'm concerned with what might happen to those lost coins over time, as more people who have the same issue, would render those coins useless and unmovable on the network.

It would be best to burn those coins, to reduce the supply of the coin and give the people a real picture of how many coins are in fact circulating within the network.

Nevertheless, I would appreciate if you could help me clarify about this situation.

Nothing can be done they will exist but no use as they will be in that dead wallet until someone hacks it , so their is no chance of burning it. Once the wallet access is lost then coins are also lost in the network and it is not access able by any means

Thanks for the clarification. I was concerned about this since many people lose access to their coins, making them rather useless as they will remain stuck on the blockchain forever. Since nothing can be done with them, then I think that Bitcoin's total supply should be less than 21 million. However, this is not the case when it comes to market cap tracking sites like Coinmarketcap. It would be great to track those "lost" coins and update the specific coin's supply. Just my thoughts.

Too difficult for detecting the people have lost his bitcoin in their wallet. In case it's running for randomly and the coinmarketcap just running the basic formula for that. So, The case of James Hommels is the one how he was losing his amount on the hardware wallet.
Not all of the lost case were running in the blockchain wallet.

Should be an easy task to list wallets that have not been used for 2 years, 3 years, etc.
Doesnt tell you how much is lost, but is a good startingpoint for speculation
