For us to know, why bitcoins need altcoin because, we know that bitcoin is just only a kind of currency. For bitcoin value to grow, we need to convert it out to any kind of altcoin, to make bitcoin value earn. Earning on bitcoin is intended only for altcoin values. This kind of trading shall be implemented to bitcoin value grow.

You really do not need alt coins for the value of bitcoin to increase.It is usually traded against the dollar and when it all started you only had bitcoin and other currency like dollar and euro to exchange and then came the rest of the coins.So bitcoin will survive without altcoins but that cannot be said about the altcoins as they need bitcoin.

To be honest most altcoins are useless and serves only for speculative trading. If you make a lot of money on alt trading than somebody had to "lose" the same amount. Also many new altcoins were proven just to be scams...

Not necessarily. Your profit from altcoin trading came from the persons that bought the altcoin recently. It's not "One man's loss, another man's gain" in altcoin trading. Maybe there are some that have lost money by dumping their coin at a lower price they got it. The people that bought the altcoin recently is the one that's on the journey of making their bitcoin more or lesser. No one lost their money simply because you sold your coins.

I think there's no need for more than +-5 altcoins. Some could be a test field for BTC incoming features, others could provide more anonymity and some could focus on just specific group of people/market and better suit their needs. It took many years for bitcoin to be where it is now (accepted by such a big companies as Micorsoft or Valve) and no altcoin can surpass it anytime soon, if ever...

This is all correct and I think this is what's happening right now. Take a look at the new altcoins or even the past coins. Most of them have serve their own purpose and most of them have their particular market.

I agree completely with you,At the beginning bitcoin was dominated others cryptocurrencies and still continue that is why Bitcoin is the mother of all the Cryptos.However there more than 700 altcoins and generated every day long.But failed to take advantages or to replace it anyhow.At this point,altcoins need alts trading to make profit,nowadays altcoins are profitable cryptocurrencies.

I would say that Bitcoin would not fail to have the value it has if there were no altcoins, but the altcoins have the potential to bring some benefits to Bitcoin. In Litecoin, for example, it can be tested segwit before this improvement is activated in Bitcoin, and there are other currencies that bring improvements that can be used in Bitcoin later.

700 altcoins seems a lot. Care to share the link of the source? If there's 700 altcoins that is created every day, then that sure is a huge number of garbage coins. Those coins don't serve any purpose at all, thus, have no audience at all. I believe that much altcoins is being created day by day because you don't need anything at all except for a complete tutorial like this one and any one can create an altcoin.

We don't need those 700 altcoins. We only need several altcoins to make bitcoins better.

Well if you sold your coins lower than the price you bought it, you are the one losing your money.  The sad part with altcoin is, even not selling you can lose money in a sense that, the altcoin your holding is being dumped heavily that it will force you to sell at a loss. If you hold it longer, you will end up bagholding a worthless coins.  So there goes all your money invested on that wortless coin.

no doubt that bitcoin is still the number one currency of the world. and will also continue as number one currency, and i think bitcoin do not need for any alt coin. i think the people who are investing their bitcoin in alt coins so they need alt coin because for them alt coins are the best way of increasing their bitcoins.

And why would you sell it if you knew its price will go up even more? You sell your altcoins when you expect long stagnation or price drop otherwise you would hold it. When somebody buys it from you he ends up with something useless (almost zero market with the stagnating altcoin) or straight in loss.

Also many unexperienced traders jump the pump and dump train too late and are doomed to be in loss

Bitcoin is already a number one the rest are clone of bitcoin.. because bitcoin is the oldest and the first crypto release i heard that bitcoin is just an experiment before but they do not know that bitcoin will be active just like now and more people are using it.. also i think they are using it in many illegal usage because of anonymity that is why i think the price was hit 1k value last 2013 due to many illegal activities happen and use bitcoin as payment.

The only reason that I can imagine is that altcoins market creates demand for BTC. People are just trying to invest (or gamble) in altcoins and even if the lifecycle of most of them is short, new coins are being lunched on daily basis. The other thing maybe is decreased time of payment processing comparing to BTC, I mean if someone need urgently to send money, there are some wide accepted altcoins.
Afterall, bitcoin does not need any altcoin to succeed IMO.

There cannot be just one store of value or currency . What if Btc price go to the sky ,who would like to spend it rather than keep it.Nobody uses gold for everyday jobs,so BTC needs altcoins,if not today then tomorrow

So you would rather keep some stagnating altcoin instead of skyrocketing bitcoin? If bitcoin price was multiplied by 10, it would be still perfectly usable for everyday spendings. You would just put one more zero after the decimal coma. Staying with your analogy - you wouldn't use silver, platinum or other precious metals neither

In my thoughts, altcoins is the gateway for us to get more bitcoin through doing trade it in the exchange platform. Since bitcoin now is too high, altcoins is our option for that things. By simply joining in the ico signature campaign, for us to have a bounty after the event of the ico. One more thing the demand is getting faster because of altcoin so the result is bitcoin getting higher.

i think bitcoin do not need for any alt coin. we people trade alt coin for making bitcoin. but bitcoin itself do not need for any alt coin as it is a perfect digital currency and do not need for any alt coin support. most of the people who like trading they mostly invest their bitcoin in alt coins and increase the number of their bitcoins. so we can say that alt coin is the best source for the people to increase the number of their bitcoins.

but at the same time i say it is good to have a competition. it helps keep us aware and moving forward. imagine if there were something as good as bitcoin that was adopted as much and could run side by side of bitcoin.

Yeah its good to have a competition in order for us to learn what is lacking with us and kept us aware and it made us move on. So like bitcoin cannot do it all alone that's why it really needs altcoin to let the work be done like in trading really justify the means of profit.

altcoin it aims to shift the position of bitcoin, bitcoin can stand on its own without the help of anyone, including altcoin, so I think although no altcoin though, bitcoin will still survive and live

It's crazy to think that Bitcoin needs Altcoins for survival. Do you realize that the price of Bitcoin would be MUCH higher if there wasn't any other side things that Bitcoin could be spent on?

With the number of hacks and Bitcoin/Altcoin trading it's likely that the people on this forum lost large amounts of cash that could've been spent on Bitcoin.

The rich people don't really want to get involved with Bitcoin because there isn't any point to them in their point of view. They're kind of too old so they just don't get it, it's beyond the similarity of the email service scenario from back in the days.
