Why do i need the AMD ADL SDK??

i installed the AMD catalyst and the rig is running OK.

Now i read several times that the AMD ADL SDK should be installed and i am wondering what functionality/performance gain it adds?

Uh, well if your mining then you have the SDK installed as it is a prerequisite for mining.  It often comes with the Catalyst package.

When I compile cgminer, I always make sure to link it to ADL.  If I don't it will be unable to read temperatures from the GPUs.

And whats the beef with the AMD APP SDK?

Not entirely sure, but from what I understood from the cgminer manual, the APP SDK actually allows you to mine, and the ADL SDK actually allows you to see temps, control fans etc.
