They're getting close to 51% of the network, I think they're trying to avoid that .. so they might just be shutting people out.

Let me know if you figure out the problem.

Ah, that might be it, thanks. I was connected to them a few days ago but I was testing some things then afterwards I couldn't reconnect.

Could you post any error messages/prompts from cgminer or guiminer whenever you connect to btcguild pool?

cgminer-using a config file with three different pools, cgminer will start, but btcguild is listed as dead. Running it clean from a command prompt it says pool setup failed, works fine for eclipsemc though.
guiminer-Cycles between "IO errors -1, tolerance 2" -> "IO errors -2, tolerance 2" -> "No more backup servers left. Using Primary and starting over" And repeat.

I can verify that I'm getting messages like "long poll IO error" and "IO errors -1, tolerance 2" via GUIMiner v2012-12-03 when I used BTC Guild (any) as a server. You could checkout BTCGuild info at Mining>Pools sectiion https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=41.0. The problem seems to be on their side.

For the love of all that is holy.... STOP MINING AT BTC GUILD!  For the good of the network pick a different pool!  Please! Smiley

Let me get you started on finding another:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Comparison_of_mining_pools

Seriously.  This chart is just an estimation, but you can see for yourself that BTC Guild controls too much of the network hashrate:

http://blockchain.info/pools

They even acknowledge this, which is why they've taken active steps to lower and limit their collective hashrate.  You can help them and the rest of the network simply by finding another pool until things are a little more proportional.  Thank you for your consideration Smiley

I am mining with a different pool? BTCGuild is just one of my backups which is why I was wondering why I couldn't connect. Chill bro lol, I'm well aware of 51%.

Sorry Smiley  I just couldn't understand why, knowing how dangerously close they are to 51%, anyone would send work their way.  There are literally dozens of other pools to choose from as backups.  But yeah.. sorry for the "excited" response. Smiley
