Searching for OS X Guide?

I've been googling around for a while now. I've found plenty of guides and lists of software for mining. But none of it works. There's lists of GUI software for OS X. But you download it and it appears to download a windows .exe, no mac application. There s directions for setting up CLI miners, but the compilation instructions don't work. I have a Mac Pro with a powerful GPU, I'm just looking to get it going and see what I can come up with. If it works well, I could see myself maybe spending a bit on some dedicated hardware. But I can't seem to get it to work at all at this point. Is there a *CURRENT* guide for OS X somewhere?

I don't know about a current guide, but I have no problems running Diablo GPU miner on my iMac.

When I try to run that app from the command line, I get an error about my OpenCL being 1.0. The implication is that I need to upgrade my OS but to what version? I'm on 10.6. now. Does 10.7 use OpenCL1.1? Is that enough of an upgrade to get it working?

I'm also confused about this username and password stuff. I'm not doing pool mining right now, now i just want to get things actually working doing solo mining. Do I even need a username and password? Do I have to give the miner app a BTC address at somepoint? Or does it connect right to my bitcoin app to know to give me any coins it finds.

Ok SO I upgraded my system to 10.7.5
I ran DiabloMiner with just a host and a port, and I get the following repeated about 4 times per second in the terminal:

>> ERROR: Cannot connect to localhost: Connection refused

The bit coin wallet app is installed and running. Not sure what to do next?

Oh man, I know exactly what you are going through. I just started myself!

Did you edit the bitcoin.conf file? it is located in ~/library/application\ support/bitcoin
check here for an example https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Running_Bitcoin

I ended up copying and pasting the example there and editing it as I needed.

Yes I have done that since my last post. Still can't connect, but the issue may be that my client isn't sycned up. Hopefully once I'm synced up, it will just start working?

Mac users don't get a lot of attention in the Bitcoin world.  It seems almost entirely Windows and Linux.  I'm posting here partly to bump this thread, partly to save this thread, and lastly to suggest considering building a cheap Windows or Linux system to host your graphics cards and do your mining with until support of OS X catches up to demand.

I am surprised it let you get that far without syncing. When mine was out of sync it gave me an error about the client downloading blocks. Nevertheless, let us know if that fixes your issue. I'm about to ask a silly question about my mhash rate. diablo is saying I am getting 57,000mhash on an ati 7770.. that just doesn't seem right at all.

So I believe I've got it working. But I just want to check. The miner software will "deposit" coins it finds (if it finds any) into my wallet just from having my wallets username and password? It doesn't need an address?

I helped my brother out by finding the info for him.  Had to actually use teamviewer and use his terminal too.  But that guide works well for macs.

So I'm looking at these "profitability" calculators, and they all make you enter in the difficulty and the bitcoins per block. But how do I find out what these values are?

I've got a general question about bitmining. And since I can't post outside newbie land yet, i'll just post it here.

How does my miner know what hashes it has tried? I'm using DiabloMiner on my GPU. Does it keep track of it's progress? If I reboot my computer, is it going to pick up where it left off, or is it going to start over and re-check a whole bunch of hashes it has already checked?

your miner will always be given new problems to solve.  just let it do its work.  if you need to restart, don't worry about it.  your miner will always find new work.
