I think they are just trying to poke some interest back into their exchange. There is no point in really following those coins as they'll just be laundered in some way and never be traced back to whoever does cash it out. Unless the culprits surrender the coins, I don't think there is any point in following it anymore.

Damage is already done, so in that regard, there is nothing that they can do to brush up their public image. I am quite skeptic in this situation, but I am 100% supporting any initiative that may lead to people being compensated with coins, and not some worthless token-equity that people can't really do anything with. If these coins end up being "returned" to Bitfinex, then they must be used to compensate users that were subject to a 30% haircut on their balances, as that's the only justifiable action...

Is the hacked coins can be recover? Is that possible? They should have do that earlier when the issue is fresh. I think its too late to do that. They already lose others trust. Its just for hype, i guess. Do they think its they way to regain back the trust of their customers? What done is done mate. Its very hard to earn someone's trust.

If the hacker really wanted to use the money, he would just launder it through any of the mixing sites available.
If there was no way to find out additional information about the hacker, I doubt if things are going to happen just because a 5% bounty has been offered.

It's been more than half a year since the incident and I think the last official update on the internal investigation was months ago. Still yet to see the full formal internal inquiry... this is only a small portion of the total loss, not even 1% of the total loss disclosed. Even if the value's gone up, still a mere 1.5%. A 5% bounty is really not going to attract any serious interest.

the exchange is just saying what it is supposed to to say
the customers whose coins have been stolen are warned to not expect any progress with compensation in 2017 (read ever)
no way in hell the stolen bitcoins can and will be recovered, its just smoke and mirrors
