Best way to start is to get an arduino and start experimenting with it. The official website has a lot of good tutorials to help you get started.

There are a few of these guys on bitmit.  All are legit to work with.  I've orderrd a few items from this merchant and had nothing but good product come from it.  I suggest buying items like this with coin.  It's better all the way around
