I'm not sure how many of you are using Fiverr for doing some gigs there but I just noticed that they are no longer accepting it , I googled to see If they announced anything about it and I found an article about it on Bitcoinist , they claimed that this is a business decision and couldn't give more details about it.

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

They were accepting bitcoin using coinbase plugin and i think this decision is due to some regulatory complexity between those two platform. There may be also not many advertisers who have ordered from them in this three years, so they may have thought of removing it rather than getting into any legal issue. But they may soon realize the potential of bitcoin and will open up their doors again for bitcoin.

Used it Last month, they used Bitpay and not Coinbase. Be able to pay using bitcoin was the only reason i was using them. I am not so sad there are others places accepting bitcoin.  it is not the first time Fiverr removes it from their site maybe they will reinstall later, that's what they did previously. I don't know if the % of orders paid with bitcoin was maybe too small in their eyes. It can't be because of the price volatility because if i am not wrong BitPay allows you to accept payments in bitcoin and receive funds directly to your bank account. The system  converts the bitcoin, shielding them from any volatility risk. They get direct deposits into bank accout

According to the following article it is because hardly anyone was using bitcoin:

http://www.coindesk.com/freelance-market-fiverr-drops-bitcoin/

Quote
When reached for comment, senior PR manager Sam Katzen confirmed that Fiverr was dropping the option.

He told CoinDesk:

“Our removal of bitcoin as a payment option was due to an unfortunate lack of interest."

We shall see this more and more - people hoard bitcoin instead of using it, because of it's deflationary model.

I also expect to see this reason pop up more and more. For most people, it is not more convenient to use bitcoin at this moment.

The main reason I'm not using bitcoins at every opportunity that offers it, is that there are mostly faster and cheaper (no transaction fee) options available to me.

I think they will start accepting bitcoin again in future when there will be comparatively large number of users would prefer paying in bitcoin but as of now, they might not be able to meet break-even point with the current number of users paying in bitcoin so they have stopped using bitcoin as a payment method.

If they have to stand on their own words they are not going to accept bitcoins anymore. But the world is round they might no longer accept bitcoins today. But once the rapid demand of bitcoin increases for sure they can see profit from bitcoin again and will open their doors to accept bitcoin for the people that are going to offer something there.

I'm thinking that this is the most likely reason for them stopping their Bitcoin accepting platform(s), since the US government is going around and getting a bit tighter on companies like Coinbase it would make sense for them to have to back out due to mounting pressure on their company via the IRS.

Sad to see it go, but it'll probably be back one day.

There must be more to it, than "nobody is using it" .... the conspiracy theorists are saying they were forced to stop accepting it, because

Bitcoin are not seen as a currency, but rather a commodity. The financial system will do anything in their power to stop the spread of wide

Bitcoin acceptance. This will include bribery.  Roll Eyes

I have never used fiverr, but that sucks. I do not know why they would stop accepting it, but I guess the main reason was because they probably did not have much services paid in bitcoins or something like that. But I know that many Bitcoin users use fiverr, so it might be something else.

There is already another thread for exactly the same topic - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1761408.0 , where you can find all possible explanations why it has probably happened. Smiley

I have a feeling that they will restore and will put back the bitcoin in their systems, bitcoin has a future and if a service/business stops accepting bitcoin then it doesn't mean that bitcoin has no future but this should be a lesson for other companies that bitcoin is a good source to make money and by risking the profit you get from your sales because this can be counted as investment too.

Damn it! That's sad.
I didn't even know they accepted BTC in the past.
I would be so much interested in it then!

XBTFreelancer which is almost an exact copy of Freelancer but Its mostly for the bitcoin community , the issue is that the website is not really used and known even though they started advertising on the forums but I still think there is a lack of freelancers there.
Alternative option is to find someone from the forums through the services section and your chances on finding one are high as I've seen some experienced people who worked for Cointelegraph , BitcoinMagazine , Bitcoinist etc...

Rather than them not accepting bitcoins anymore as a way of trade, the big news for me are they used to accept it ! Even though I briefly went on the platform in the past, I did not saw that Bitcoin could be used as a way of payment. If I knew that, I would have been much more active and would have to this day fullfilled hundreds of gigs !
