I'm interested is there any alt-coin or is it profitable at all to be mining some alt-coin with a regular pc? I have a 3.6Ghz dual core CPU and 1GB of GPU, can I do something with it?

If you are going to mine with gpu, than you are wasting time and electricity, cpu mining is already dead. Also it would be better if you tell us your gpu's name but as I see gpu with 1gb don't worth for mining, better to buy best ati gpu and create gpu mining rigs. Also if you have huge amount of space in computer, you can to mine with your hdd.
Try ether, zcash and etc. As I remeber they are profitable.

GPUs with 1gb of ram are quite old at this point. I woul't say it would be profitable for you to mine anything since electricity costs would be much higher than what you would get.
