It is a site that has been reported to be scam by many members, i.e they have the private key for your address and can use it if they want and they have. While making custom bitcoin addresses is possible, you should create them on your own computer or let someone else create it with split-key vanity gen .

Never trust any site that can hold your private key. Even if they are legit (btw Bitcoinvanitygen.com is scam) they can still be hacked and if they hold any records of your wallet private key, your funds will be stolen

I wonder why OP would want to have a custom bitcoin address at the risk of losing funds to scammers. I'm still using Web wallet for storing my bitcoins temporarily. The funds I stored here are minor funds and These are funds I can afford to lose. We can't really trust web wallets and services.

I have also heard about them before but i will suggest not to store any amount of bitcoin in that address generated by them. You can use it as show off address and send out whatever you will receive on that address to another address as soon as possible, this is risky so if you want you can use it at your own risk.

It's because they find it cool to have an address with their preferred name at front, plus it can take a significant amount of time when doing it themselves, so they refer to certain sites for the sake of easiness. Major negative aspect of these sites are that they can keep a log of your private keys. That's why I don't understand why they expose themselves to so much risk, just for a flashy address. Either do it yourself, or simply skip these sites. I am however not sure what you making use of web wallets has to do with a custom Bitcoin address? Sites creating custom addresses are not wallet services.

For my address 1ECKMARko7DFtJ2YVrBeAc9s23xdAMV4eT it took about minute or two to create. And after that if you want you can import it in web wallet or whatever...

I am obviously talking about more difficult combinations. In some cases it could take weeks/months in order to get your desired prefix due to the difficulty. In that case it's easier for people to make use of certain sites. But as I said, there you have to understand what risks you're exposing yourself to. In that matter having a flashy address doesn't outweigh the negative aspects. But hey, if people want to proceed anyway, then it's up to them.

There is no need for any websites since there is Bitcoin Vanity Pool https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=84569.0 . yeah you will have to pay in order to get more complicated addresses but at least your private key will be secure

I was purely talking about sites that do offer these services for the sake of easiness as people then don't have to go through these steps themselves. That's it. I am well aware of the fact that you can generate yourself a custom address which of course is also the best option. But that again, was not what I was referring to with my post.
