Hello,

I'm new to the mining community! I've become interested in mining whether it be bitcoins or litecoins whichever you guys prefer... I'm just curious, I have a "decent" desktop computer that's not getting much work and was wondering what kind of graphics card(s) I should get for it.

I will probably need to get a bigger power supply for sure. (Measly 430w)

But here are my specs:

- ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM
- AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX
- Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
- COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
- COOLER MASTER V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler Compatible with Intel 1366/1155/775 and AMD AM3/AM2+/AM2
- GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
- MSI R6450-MD1GD3/LP Radeon HD 6450 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card
- Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply
- G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-

Any recommendations would be great!

Thanks.

The best ROI is the Ati 5830. About $90 used and 260-300MH/s.

Hey, you're right, 430W may not get you far.

These will probably be of help to you:

Thanks for the suggestions. Still wanting to get more feedback. What would be a good graphics card pair?

Agree. 2x5830 for cca. 200usd would be a valuable setup.

I would start here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
It is a massive list of cards and their hash rates. Now in terms of buying the cards, you could go 2 different routes. Both have pros and cons. You could either go on a site like Newegg.com and buy new. Which is the more expensive option but it guarantees what ever you buy will work. The other option is ebay and buy new/used cards. New tend to be even more expensive than Newegg but you can find used cards that are in perfect working order for way under the MSRP of a new one. But of course there is always risk of buying used but the saving are worth it. I have about 50/50 new and used cards in my mining rigs.

Yeah, I've been looking at that list. I'm just curious about a two card setup. I've never done it before, so I was interested if I purchased two Gigabyte 7950 from NewEgg how well they would work together on the board and case I have. I've never used Crossfire before.

What kind of power supply would you recommend with two 7950?

Thanks.

So long as the board has the slots for the cards, they should work fine together. 2 cards is just as simple as 1. There really is no difference. Also with crossfireing, all you do it link the cards with the cable provided by the new cards, and turn it on in Catalyst Control Center. That is it. It is wonderful how simple it is.
