Would be about time for people to stop giving money to random anon strangers in exchange for pretty images and a few empty promises.

It's funny how years ago there were premine scams all the time but people slowly learned to avoid most of it. ICOs are the very same concept except the dev is dumping his premine directly onto people instead of just into an orderbook on an exchange.

You'd think that by now, so much bitcoins are bound in big ICO multisig wallets, that there is less and less liquid BTC floating around to put in ICOs Wink

Seriously though, since ICOs are so abundantly present, it's hard to make decent returns on them. Every legitimate ICO attracts BTC like a dunghill attracts flies. I mean, every time I see an ICO with less than 100 BTC invested two days after the start, I seriously ask myself what's wrong with it. So, from an investors perspective, the time of ICOs may be over.

Apart from that, I consider ICOs to be a legitimate way to have tokens distributed and good projects funded. The problem is, that way too many projects consider themselves as "good".

We should be more cautious and alert about scams for sure, but on the other hand the possibility of investing in something unique is in altcoins ico, so i wont stop, but it will take more and more in every new ico to convince me.

if you want buy ico selling youre must follow the rule
1 must use escrow, addres is control escrow, not dev control, must publish must sign message is addres full control in escrow hand
2 must quality dev

without escrow don't buy ico selling, is new accident ico selling and coin scam is ascedancy, use escrow but not full control, investor buy use dev addres, after receive to dev can sending to escrow addres is bad escrow system, because dev can still run bitcoin investor

This is good. I think I can see many ICOs out there without a thread here. So it's safer to join ICOs that is promoted here in bitcointalk. And of course with those list of qualifications.

You have a point in that matter, those Chinese project in crypto currency most of them are really called as shit coin, like lately the ASC, \i can't even imagine what happen. Even lutpin and yahoo affected on that things. I don't know if I'm right. What the good things about in lutpin is that he's very transparent to his community because He immediately update the participants and the investors about what the hell happened with the ASC. So thanks with him.

Maybe yes or maybe not. Its only depends on what ICO you want to invest. Some ICO are just scams and some are not. If you want trustworhy ICO, find an ICO which have escrows which protects the investors from being scammed. Some scam ICO usually dont have roadmaps and other details. Thats a signal for me to stay away from them.

The first rule when investing is to not invest in something you don’t fully understand, because if you don’t understand it then how do you know this is a good idea that can bring money? Most people investing in ICO are just speculating.

Investing in ICO's are too risky. There was some projects which was very ambitious and promising, but everything eneded after ICO. Dev runaway with investment and then start another project. In mostly cases ICO's is just another way to scam.

I think thst people need to stop being idiots with their money and think about what they doing. Its nice to blame ICO fpr a problems the user created. Ypu support a shitcoin you will lose your money. There plenty legit coins people can use but they love to listen to and fall for scams that promise riches since they can't see through their self destructive greed. You get as you deserve.

In addition to that, any ICO offering to pay for its bounty with only its own coin instead of or with Bitcoin is susceptible to scam. No point participating in such campaigns and instead of investing in such ICOs, better to send the coins to some orphanage homes, where it would indeed bring smiles to people that genuinely need it.

Its good, support by bounties will make you have no risk except your time. I do same with you, i support ico with my signature and others campaign like social media etc, because now i doubt to invest in ICO, too many ICO be scam coin.

I do not suggest people should stop investing in ICO as this will kill innovation in crypto world but evaluate thoroughly before investing and check the people behind the project and of course their roadmap and whitepaper. These things can pretty give you idea if an ICO is genuine or not.
