Gold vs. Bitcoin as an Investment - What’s Better?

If you had to invest strictly either in bitcoin or gold for next 15 years, what would it be?

Bitcoin:

It has been around for more than 6 Years. Faced all scam news, accusation and what not still always managed to make a comeback. It has a growing market cap of over 16.5 billion USD today. Demand is increasing an the supply of bitcoin will soon cease to grow. It cannot be duplicated unless someone invents a quantum computer to do so and BTW bitcoin is patch-able so it can improvise.


Gold:

It has been around for more than centuries. Trusted from era of human culture. Its estimated that the market cap of gold is 7.3 trillion USD (This more than 400 times the market cap of bitcoin today) so it far from oblivion. Gold is indeed limited and cannot be duplicated unless we invent a sustainable hadron collider in next 15 years.


What would it be?

Considering this survey is being conducted on a bitcoin forum, the results might hold prejudice.

If I had to choose between investing in Gold or Bitcoin for the next 15 years I would definitely choose Bitcoin as there so much room left to grow for it. Also I have this belief that bitcoin and cryptos are the currencies of the future.
Gold is more for saving purposes as fiat currencies tend to devaluate over the years due to inflation and other economic factors. So my choice is definitely bitcoin. But in real world situation I would invest 60% in bitcoin and 40% in Gold.

I think it would still be gold as there is still practically more uses for gold than bitcoins. If the whole internet just suddenly goes out and never comes back then bitcoin is gone too! Unlike gold would still be here regardless of what happens to the internet. So that is why gold is stil much more secure than bitcoins. Though in bitcoins if you are a risk taker then you would get a chance to double or triple your money.

I still prefer gold. Gold is a material and world is yet to understand the proper concept of Digital Gold ( Bitcoin ) unless they ( majority ) are not going to get involve with bitcoin and use bitcoin as currency for all the transactions. Gold remain shine.

Lets see the future. I hope one day Bitcoin will become another Shining Gold. 

By the way my 80% earning is in Bitcoin now .. but still for bread i have to convert it into Fiat.

Bitcoin is definitely worth the risk than gold at the same time bitcoins also enable me to profit large amount of money in just a shorter period of time than Gold ! I can't think of any reason for myself why choose Gold rather than bitcoins maybe because Gold is the "Old trend" and Bitcoin is the "new trends " nevertheless in any of the two I will pock the most profitable and for now it is Bitcoin!

bitcoin and gold. i can not choose only one of them.
bitcoin for obvious reasons and the fact that it can go up a lot in the following years because of its mass adoption.

and gold because i can easily buy and hold it and be sure that it is not going to lose much value even if price goes down.

and also altcoins. but the difference is that i never hold altcoins, i just trade them short term.

If you just want to invest and leave it completely without monitoring daily/weekly price, than its better to invest in GOLD which will have most stable price and will tend to increase to counter devaluation of fiat. It can be safe place to invest if you don't like to take risk of loss on economic crisis.

On other hand bitcoin is much more attractive than gold, its price is more volatile creating great opportunity for daily/active traders to earn profit on every price swing. So the one who will be able to keep checking price and can do active trading investing in bitcoin is wise decision.

For me bitcoin is better than gold to invest/trade.

nobody said you have to choose only one. bitcoin price is a good thing because it is not known to everyone and still small but has a great potential of growth and this potential is showing itself every year. soon a great number of people will know it and start investing in bitcoin and that is the time when bitcoin price no longer goes up $10-$50 at time but it goes up $500 each time and reaches a $5000+ price.

and gold is obviously a good choice and you said most of the reasons for it. and it has been a reliable investment. we have these gold coins in our country that you can buy and easily store.

and on top of all these i also prefer trading altcoins for some small investment for short term in order to make some good money out of it.

We are now in the era of digitization, so technology related assets will get more importance than the commodity or metal based assets which has a standard value and will be stable forever with very small percentage of growth. For the needy ones bitcoin and other virtual currencies are the only hope than gold. Now bitcoin acceptance is low, soon people will turn from gold towards bitcoin.

You are absolutely right. If wisely to buy and sell, all investment methods are very good. It is best to invest simultaneously in several objects. This will protect you from the risks

Actually it's depends how you want to take a kind of a risk, gold and bitcoin, both is the best investment so far, bit the risk make them different, obviously bitcoin have high risk, instead the profit is high too. Comparing with gold price recently the price reached $1,200+ with stable movement it's good to use as a long term investment with low risk.

Personally I choose both, but more keep bitcoin, it's have a surprise market and I loved a surprised.

I haven't tried to invest on gold and even had an idea regarding to the investment with gold but If I had to choose between the two I think it would be much better to invest with bitcoin nowadays although the gold is also promising but I think bitcoin would have much great movement to its price so for the people who are aiming for profit it will be good for them as well as for the long term investors .

I voted for 'company stock' because that's where I have most of my money,  and this topic has been done to death.  There are probably 100 duplicate threads about this just in the last year.  This is a bitcoin forum, so obviously people are going to be biased towards bitcoin.  OP doesn't really want the answer to this,  else he would have done some browsing on this forum.

For me it's gold. Gold has never lost its value since centuries and will never even lose its worth. Bitcoins have lost its value over time in the span of 6-8 years compared to the gold rates.

Even though now taxes will be applied on the gold we own and buy, it's still considered a metal that has a high value. Bitcoins aren't taxed till they are not converted into fiat currency.

Gold an investment that is not affected by inflation as it may be bought in any currency but it is sold at the current rate in your own currency. Bitcoins are limited in supply and with many coins getting lost, there are less coins in circulation.

If I would have an opportunety to chose I would invest some % of my monthly salary as in bitcoin as in gold. It may be reasonable to keep a small portion of wealth in gold as a hedge against the collapse of the national currency and other unexpected tragedies. Gold is able to resist inflation for a long time, preserving the richness, though not increasing it. I believe, is to place 1-2% of the funds in bitcoin and store them, hoping that they will continue to grow.

gold is a good investment too, but it will be profitable if we hold it in a period of time, but do not in a long period of time while bitcoin is good investment for a long period of time because it will give more profit.

so if we talk about 15 years, I prefer bitcoin than gold as an investment

You should also remember on a thing that bitcoin prices also moves faster in down word as well not only in up direction. So it is called a high-risk investment. But gold moves slow and study in both ways, and that's is it is a very attractive investment for many years or decades. I have invested in both products. More money in gold and less in bitcoins.

The risk is higher with bitcoin but the reward can be bigger too. An investment in gold is usually done for a long term period like 10 years, not 1 year. While Bitcoin can be an investment for 1 year you can get the same profit than gold with 5 years... but you can also lost your initial investment, at least some percentages. So i would say it's depend on the long run. For a long period i prefer gold but for a short period i prefer bitcoin
