Hey guys,

I still hold some old notes.

Where do I get them exchanged from in and around Mumbai?
Has anyone done it after 31 Jan? Whats the procedure?

You better rush. Holding more than 10 demonetized notes after 31-March is a crime.

You can get it done from RBI office in Mumbai till 31st March 2017. But that too there is some condition that you need to prove that you were out of country during that period. Kindly check and get it done.  by the way how much do you hold worth?

Two ways to go about it.
The legal way will tax you to death.
The other way is still viable, hint, dress up like a gurkha.

Though I sound comedic, if you're smart enough go do the research.

Just a friendly warning: even the RBI has stopped accepting demonetised notes long back. Being in possession of these cancelled notes can be irksome and even illegal.

Now, they are just fancy pieces of paper that could bring their owner into trouble with the Indian law.  If you are living outside India, maybe you can apply glue to one side and affix them on walls for use as wallpaper, if that's legal in your country of residence (defacement of friendly nation's symbols etc stuff!).

Here's a news item that demonstrates the peril of exchanging these invalid notes today:

The very LATEST "Breaking News" on this issue:

It seems that India's mortal enemy, the ISI intelligence agency of Pakistan, covets these cancelled notes, for the following reasons:

Even if these demonetised notes cease to be legal tender, they contain the physical security features of regulation legal tender notes, such as the RBI security wire. The ISI Agents in India purchase these old notes, then transfer them via Nepal to Karachi, and to Peshawar in the NWFP (Pashtun ethnic nationality homeland) province of Pakistan.

The security wires from these cancelled notes are next transferred to the fake printed notes at the fake Indian note printing presses of the ISI; then, they are taken back to India for circulation via Bangladesh. The NIA of India admits that these fakes are so good they will not be detected by the common man.

Wow, that's some seriously sneaky, super-intelligent grade of evil, more like Professor Moriarty coming up with devious plans to upend Sherlock Holmes.

http://zeenews.india.com/india/isi-buying-demonetised-notes-to-use-in-new-fake-currencies-intelligence-agencies-2114749.html

So, if you are still in possession of any demonetised notes, I think it'll be best that you burn them all thoroughly so that all the physical security features get destroyed and can't be re-used as fakes for nefarious purposes.
