Why is fee still high (6000 unconfirmed transactions)

mempool is practically empty now with 6600 https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions and unless they start spamming again, it will stay empty.

so why are fees still high (140 s/b)?!!

standard fee in sending transaction 50 - 100k satoshi /Mb
if you use sending fee 140 satoshi/b or equal 140k satoshi/Mb i think you use sending fee is very high

Miners are pumping the transaction fees, this is very strange and unexpected from them, the number of unconfirmed transaction has been increased to 11k which is really high. To be up to date with the latest optimal fees we should check here https://bitcoinfees.21.co/

Unconfirmed Transactions were very low around the time of your post , less than 4000.

But only a few hours later and the Unconfirmed Transactions have increased back up to 19590 Unconfirmed Transactions.
So it is getting slower already.

Always check https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions ,
before sending BTC , the higher the # the longer the delays.
Anytime the number is 10000 or below , BTC runs at normal speed.

This are due to lot of faucet transactions and other low volume gambling transaction are happening in the match time so you have to check that when ever their are sports matches running that time you will see high unconfirmed transaction due to heavy betting on other times you will see very less unconfirmed transactions as that time their wont be any match and only some of them are using the transfers.

and also the price rises so according to that the transaction fees also changes.

Exactly this will cause fees to go lower over time, this situation can't continue. We have free market and competition will kick in.
Bitcoin is not only cryptocurrency, as soon as Bitcoin miners will realize that their greed is harming network.
Users are displeased with constantly rising fees and they will either chose other coin or ditch cryptocurrency in general.

41,379 unconfirmed transactions now, according to blockchain.info.
You don't need an attack for a transaction backlog these days. Unless the blocksize is increased, or segwit is implemented, we are going to have to get used to large confirmation times / high fees.

take the way devs implemented the tx fee.. not only subverting coded methods of 'priority' which would have alleviated the war, but also using 'averages' which dont make the fee's drop reactively when demand is low. but actually keeps fee's up. even when one block is low demand.
EG take a 25 block average.. imagine first 24 are 0.0001 and the 25th is 0.0025 then look at the 'average' after that.. even if demand was near 0 and no one was pushing the fee up.... the "average" itself pushes up

yep even if blocks 26-75+ were near empty with just 2 tx's paying the estimate... the fee would rise

Basically what you are trying to tell is that the core developers are trying their best to destroy what satoshi started in the first place.It is a monopoly and it will kill bitcoin in the long run.We are predicting values above $2000 and so on but transaction delays and increasing transaction fees will come and bite them in the end.

Do you think they actually care about what Satoshi wanted? They are in this for the money, and if SegWit and LN is not accepted.. they

will move on to another Alt coin that will accept it, and most probably move on to the next implementation. This will continue, until they

It's because we all follow the same work when it comes to paying for the fees on a transaction, think of it like this. Everyone pays a higher fee in order to get their transaction confirmed faster and faster, people are just going to keep paying more and this is going to rise at an exponential rate.

tx fee is up to the miners, each miner may decide if mine without charging any fee or a small amount, but thats is part of their profit. As block rewards decline tx fee will go up, by 2021 block rewards should be done, so tx fee will be the only profit. that is why some agreement needs to be done about this(fees).

I have a transaction with buy.bitcoin.com/Simplex that is hung-up somewhere (no trx yet, apparently not sent).  My problem is that the send to address will expire in 15 hours...  Not only is it not confirmed, it has not been sent!  7 hours ago I got an email from Simplex saying my BTC would arrive in 20 minutes....

Not only unarrived, unsent!  

Oh, and now 75,000 unconfirmed transactions.  

Then we will see.  I suppose I ought to try and cancel the trx???

The reason is pretty much clear and obvious that it is due to the high number of traffic that floods the system and that heavy transactions cannot be cope up with the miners due to the limit of 1 mb blocksize. So sometimes even if you pay huge miners fee the transaction is still long to confirm but if you don't set a high fee then it will took much longer.

The reason is pretty much clear and obvious that it is due to the high number of traffic that floods the system and that heavy transactions cannot be cope up with the miners due to the limit of 1 mb blocksize. So sometimes even if you pay huge miners fee the transaction is still long to confirm but if you don't set a high fee then it will took much longer.

This situation is happening more and more frequently each few days. More people start using Bitcoins every day while many people spam the blockchain with many fake transactions. I believe the Bitcoin destiny must be choosed soon and fast. A upgrade must be done, something that can make the transactions more dynamic inhibiting the spam. For now, what we can do is to wait and don't send any transaction when there are many unconfirmed transactions.

You seem to want both fastest confirmation and lowest fees. You can never have both. You must balance speed and price, there is no other way.

Lower Fees and Faster Confirmations,
I can have both by using LTC (Also controlled by the Chinese) or ETH or another Altcoin.

I’d never really thought about it that way but I must agree with your view because the last days the transaction fees are very high and the unconfirmed transactions most hours of a day is a nightmare; so I don't want imagine what will happen after a surge in bitcoin's price. Moreover, after many conversations and debate about the scaling issue there is no light in the end of tunnel. Therefore, I see too as the only solution if someone wants to do any micropayment transactions and doesn't like the domination of miners must go with altcoins.

It is just a luck. Sometimes transactions completes within 15 to 20 mins and sometimes even after 2 hours the bitcoin transactions remain unconfirmed. I think it has to do with the whole block and if one person has send low tx fee, it slows down the whole block of transactions.

It based on your fees, but how many your fees dude? I believe if you're trying to put over than the general fees. I mean you was putting the higher fees rather than auto generate fees in your transaction.
Currently over 60k unconfirmed transaction.

Simplex resolved the problem.   

Still, when there is stress like this on the blockchain, my future actions will be to avoid more complicated (or new) activities.  No new BTC providers, no nothing out of the ordinary.

And pay a high fee for anything "important".

It looks like we all should avoid thinking that the Bitcoin Ecosystem will usually be "routine", so exercise almost extreme caution...

I think the issue really should be resolved considering the future bitcoin must also grow well, bitcoin is supposed to be a means of payment transactions quickly and does not take too much FEE
