Hi, this is my first post and I do not really know what I am doing...I had to pay a company in Mexico for some medication but I sent the bitcoins to the wrong address. I was told that this will be returned to me after 30 days. This is fine but in the mean time I will have to buy some more and start this transaction again.  ( as I cannot wait 30 days without the meds) My question is that once the refund is returned can I 'send' the bitcoins to my husbands email address as I won't want to use them again?

Bitcoins are the same no matter where they come from. Once you get the bitcoins, you can do whatever you want with them.

Bitcoins aren't normally sent to ab email address unless you go through a company that provides such a service.

who told you, if you sent to the wrong address your bitcoin will returned within 30 days? If that address is not known to the owner, your bitcoin will never be returned

I sympathize with you because you've really messed up and I haven't heard of such a thing as receiving mistakenly transferred bitcoins back after 30 days. No way you've hit a dead end dude and you've got to accept reality and be careful next time.

How did you contact the owner of that address? Who told you that you will receive the bitcoin you sent in 30 days? Is it the owner of the wrong address you send bitcoin? I dont think the bitcoin you sent will be reteurn to you. If he will. He can do it whenever he want. But 30 day? I dont think he will return it. Anyway, you cant send bitcoin thru email. You can send bitcoin thru wallet only. Make sure the address is correct before sending the funds.

Think of Bitcoin as electronic cash. And like the cash, it "stays" in wallets (over-simplified explanation).

Now, a red flag: "I sent the bitcoins to the wrong address. I was told that this will be returned to me after 30 days."
If you have sent them to a wallet, it's up to the owner of that wallet if he will send them back or not. Normally that will not happen (for example, there is a HUGE chance that the wallet you have sent to is not owned by anybody yet).
Usually red flags should make you be extremely careful, they may be steps to discover a scam.

Now about your question: if your husband has a Bitcoin wallet (not e-mail), you can send Bitcoin there, it's like you'd put money into his wallet. And money is money.

In 30 days time or within that you'll get the bitcoin back only if the receiver feels pity of your situation or if he's kind hearten he would return back to your bitcoin address. Other than this no other possibilities were there to get it back as bitcoin is irreversible in terms of transaction.

No one will return if you have send to wrong address.
Where's the logic?
If you send to wrong address then how they can to return?
You are clearly not understand anything about bitcoin, spend couple days reading articles and watching videos about bitcoin.
You can't send bitcoin to email.

If you send the bitcoin to the wrong address it will return to your wallet with maximum of three days ,and its not 30 days.  Dont wait for.your  bitcoin it will never go back to your address.

It only happens when you know each other, or you know those who received those coins if not them it's no use to wait, don't expect that it will be returned.
To OP just serve this mistake as a lesson. Double check or even triple or multiple times that the address you want to send your coin is correct.

Thanks guys but I don't think I explained properly.  I sent the bitcoins to an email address of the company that I purchased the medication. They contacted me to inform me of this mistake and said they couldn't touch it but advised me to contact coin base, who said if the recipient doesn't claim them it will automatically be returned.

My other question was, I wondered if the bitcoins returned could be turned back into cash as there isn't anything else I need to purchase.

yes you could turn it to cash thru coinbase too, you will need to open an sell bitcoin order or something like that and the money will be return to you but please be informed that bitcoin price moves and the buy and sell price is not the same, so if you bought $1,000 worth of bitcoin you will either recieve less (if the price doesn't move and/or fall) or you will recieve more if the price goes higher than the time you bought it

It would have been helpful if you would have explained in the beginning that you were asking about services provided by the Coinbase company.

Yes, they provide a service that allows you to send bitcoins using an email address of your recipient.

Yes, if the bitcoins are returned to your Coinbase account, then you can sell them to receive a transfer of US dollars back to your bank account.

As has been mentioned, the exchange rate between US dollars and bitcoins changes constantly. As such you probably won't receive the exact same number of dollars back as you originally used to acquire the bitcoins.  Depending on the exchange rate at the time that you make the transaction to convert back to US dollars, you could end up with more (or less) dollars.

While there are users here on this forum that are familiar with Coinbase (either because they have used it themselves or have talked to others that have some knowledge), in general you'll get more reliable and accurate answers about Coinbase's services by asking Coinbase directly.

i think there is wallets who use the email address to process the transaction like Xapo
before you send the money you should verify the bitcoin address the begin and the end of the char at least
