Maybe they want to maintain their anonymity and do not want their address to be associated with their personal social media account.Once your bitcoin address is identified with you, they can check your bitcoin transaction/ received in blockchain etc Smiley

Or, they are hiding the address because its not their btc wallet, they just copied it just a proof in marketing something. You can not verify their claims if this is the case Smiley

There are no security risks of giving out addresses or having them posted publicly, after all, that is what they are meant to do. However, posting your address publicly means that people can link that address (and any transaction related to it) to an identity. It also means that people can see how much money you have in that address and in other addresses that are spend linked to the posted one.

You can't be hacked by giving ur public address but you are exposing ur net value. Thats why people are not eager to share their addresses in public.
Bitcoin should be more anonymous somehow, future will tell if it become like that.

People can either use or gather data from your wallet addresses, but the worst they can do is send URL stubs inside transactions sent if spammed by a scraper.

I'd really only share it with people who trade / exchange with you... Despite risks, it's really something that can lead to problems if the wrong people get into personal data.

Your wallet cannot be tampered with just by showing your public bitcoin address. However, I think a big reason

why people don't like showing their wallet is because from there somebody can see how much bitcoin you own.

This could be why people aren't comfortable sharing their addresses, because they don't want their net earnings

available for everyone to see.

Certainly, I used to hide my bitcoin address to keep off from hackers.

Once a hacker had sought how many btc wagered or how many btc you have balance, you could be their next target.

Just like in my blockchain, I don't know how does a person known my identification code since I am the only one who have known that.

However since my gmail wasn't hacked, he wasn't able to open my wallet. This is alarming because hackers are desperate to steal money from others.

Hence, protect your wallet. Don't use your main wallet your every transaction so that no one could tend an attention to check your btc balance/wagered.

If you're doing some illegal transaction you should hide your bitcoin address so that they can't trace you. If you're not doing some illegal don't hide.

they can't hack your wallet if they see only your bitcoin address. But If they see that your bitcoin wallet have many bitcoin they will try to hack your wallet.

There are people who dont like to post out their bitcoin address on public even they dont do any illegal because as other members said they dont want to be traced by posting it on public because someone could really trace you up on how much money do you have but knowing your address couldnt do anything harm on your bitcoins as long they dont have access into it.

You can see that I have publicly proclaimed an address in my signature.  Here we stake and verify ONE BTC address just in case our account ever gets hacked.  This allows for our accounts to be recovered by Theymos.  That said; it is safe to do.  Should I ever have coins show up in that address, I would never move them directly to another one of my wallets.  Coins always pass through commercial tumblers before coming to rest on my end.  This makes revelation of any address pretty safe.  Knowledge about internet connectivity and how to move coins within the blockchain make proclamation of any address OK to do.

Nope. Bitcoin address has no connection on security risk. Your bitcoin will not be hack through your bitcoin address. Bitcoin address is only use for receiving bitcoin only. Thats it. Some bitcoin users just dont want to give their bitcoin address publicly. Hackers cant hack your btc with bitcoin address only. Usually hackers will just hack your funds thru malware and phishing.

You don't need to hide your address but I want to explain a small detail:

Bitcoin addresses are disposable, they are not like an email address or a bank account, don't get identified with one ("this is my address"). I do not recommend to have only one BTC address, is better to use different addresses for payments.

Also, remember that BTC addresses which don't have outputs have an extra security layer against quantum computers, because the public address is not public yet.

Knowing Wallet address is not a problem, But knowing Email address is a big problem. Hacker will try to log in to your account if they know your mailing address.

What id? Did you mean bitcoin address? If bitcoin address is what you are saying. Then hide it whenever you want. But technically, bitcoin address cant penetrate by hackers. Bitcoin address dont have relation with the security of your bitcoin. Its the private key you should be keeping safe not the address.

your bitcoin address is never hidden ! it is always public ledger! if you want people to associate you and that address then say its yours! if not-- dont!
but  unless your an absolute fool and go around letting people hack into your personal computer then even publicly

This could be why people aren't comfortable sharing their addresses, because they don't want their net earnings

Exactly and that's why use any BTC Exchange's i.e BTC-E , Bitstamp , Kraken wallet for your trades and sending to others and use another private wallet for storage which address you don't need to share to public .

Many people don't want everything about personal identity known to public, including financial transactions. Most writing on a variety of social media, they censoring address from their bitcoin wallet to prevent copy & paste from scammers.

If we save bitcoin in large nominal in bitcoin addresses which have been published, and misused by others. You will suffer huge losses. The main reason privacy. But now, many wallets can replace bitcoin address for each transaction.

According to me There are no Security Reasons about Posting Your Bitcoin address or Giving it to anyone because Bitcoin address Just Made for Accepting Payments From Others and It is Only Possible that someone can Access your Funds when the Person Know your Private Keys Otherwise there are No Issues.....
