Why can't existing ads 'hurt someone'? And that's what the disclaimer below each advert is for, but I assume it would be handled in the same way any other auction would be. Theymos usually doesn't accept bids from sites that look suspect but having an auction for x amount of time doesn't suddenly cause problems. Since these slots will go for a premium it makes it less likely scammers will take advantage but already established businesses instead.

hilariousandco, I like pretty much your idea. That would make for the first time an advertisement bidding fun. A record price would be set for sure I think.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Combining some of the suggestions here, I decided to introduce a bonus prize consisting of some of the VIP perks, and I also changed the auction rules to encourage more active bidding. Here's the auction: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1789075.0

Certain extra risks, like "double or nothing"? You can bit for a slot, with a 50% chance of getting it, and 50% chance for getting the ad slot for two weeks. Something like that.

What did you do for the other big events (100th ad round I assume)?

How about having more than the normal number of ad slots.
I think it would require changing some coding and doing it just for a week wouldn't be worth taking all the pain.
But if possible a additional ad slot after every 200th post and its multiplier would be a good incentive for advertisers to bid high for this week.

Of course, you could automate it, but I'm pretty sure Theymos manually has to upload ads every week, and it says on the thread that it could be longer than 7 days, so it's not automated. In fact, it would be easier for him.

looking for a signature campaign, dm me for that
