When is Ripple public rollout?

Does anyone have a date on the officall Open Coin/ Ripple public rollout.  The website is still in beta and still has some issues with usability and also with trade confirmations.   I hope they make their date and get a lot of press.

I have heard sometime in May.  I signed up for OpenCoin's email list and I think they are going to make another distro of Ripples before going live.  What I would like to know is what to do with all the Ripples once you have them....hoping they go up in value, but then how do you convert them to something a little more spendable is another question.
