Hey-ho! You can congratulate me! I'm a senior now! The months of spamming to this forum were not wasted: I am now among the chosen few (2,182, to be precise ) who can change font sizes in their signatures! Look at mine! Gone are the times when Rampion was telling me off for noobish habit of raising topics that were discussed eons ago. But I swear the privilege won't spoil me, I'm as democratic and approachable as I was at good old Jr times

Today is the day the new weekly MACD candle will appear right?
What do you think will happen? Will something happen? or still sideways?

What is happening again? There were great news with start of this week why are we heading down? Or maybe these big corporations pushing the price down so they can buy in and let it skyrocked then?

Why is all this bitfinex swap stuff relevant? I thought the whole theory behind the current rally was that it was neither bitstamp nor huobi that was leading the rally but that it was due to offline whales accumulate huge blocks and due to commercial usage, because there is clearly not enough volume on exchanges to be supporting the rally.
I don't understand that reasoning. Offline trades don't move the markets we look at (at least not directly), so the rally can't be "due to offline whales". And also: what do you mean by "not enough volume to support the rally"? Thanks for anyones explanation.

It probably isn't the major cause behind the rally. But it is a significant factor. $24 million in swaps is 37,000 bitcoins (or possibly more if the cost basis for the long positions is below the market price which it probably is). And in the past, the number of USD swaps has grown faster than the Bitcoin price (eg. 2013) which means that it may continue to be a source of demand. By contrast, the Bitcoin Investment Trust with their 105k bitcoins looks like they've really slowed down their purchases (of course that could change). Offline whales might be accumulating large blocks, but we don't have data on that. If we did - I'd be very happy to see it!

I agree, I thought the Expedia news would have made at least a noticeable gain - maybe its still too early and people are still hearing the news? Maybe this is the quiet before the storm brought on by the flood of wall street money that's supposed to enter the market?

Maybe this is the quiet before the storm brought on by the flood of wall street money that's supposed to enter the market? The only news I can ever recall having an immediate effect on price was during the regulatory hearings at congress or wherever late last year. It went soaring in seconds as it became clear that it wasn't going to be a total hatefest. As for all the other news out there, it slowly adds to the critical mass that may eventually wipe out the handful of people who probably control the prices on the exchanges.

what is happening at bitstamp is very fishy.
Didn't you think the KYC was fishy enough? These are the signs of an exchange in trouble. It has happened before, and will likely happen again. You have all been through it before, but can you act on it? Time will tell. My coins have left stamp for now.

I'll try to answer here: we used to include Bitstamp orderbook into our own orderbook for liquidity purpose. In other words, we were arbitraging between our own platform and Bitstamp. However as we continue to grow we decided to slowly (and I insist on "slowly" withdraw this arbitraging program to let people do the arbitraging themselves. This is why you started to see a difference between the price on our platform and Bitstamp, as arbitraging for third parties is interesting only after a certain threshold (around 1% like now is not a very good opportunities). http://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/27vq6b/why_the_large_difference_between_bitstamp_and/ci533wg

I use it only when I need to buy coins with fiat, but I transfer them immediately to Bitfinex. If any of you guys have BTC in Stamp I'd take them out of there asap.
