Every year migrants around the world send billions of USD/EUR back to their families. The cost of sending cash via Western Union and Money Gram averages 10-20% in fees. However bitcoin is emerging as an alternative which offers lower fees and faster payments.

Bitcoin also helps allot for countries with high inflation to store value in Bitcoins.
Bitcoin helps for millions of people worldwide.

I agree with your thoughts about the lower fees, but i don`t know for how long the btc fees will continue to be lower than the other payment method transaction fees.

Well for me there is no need to compare bitcoins with the banks because first of all they have different purpose and very different from one another ! There is many services provided by banks that bitcoin dont have and If I were to choose with bitcoin and bank i will safely answer bank of course ! And what you are comparing is not bank ! western union or money gram is a money transfer service which is not really related with banking ! and if you will ask me which is much better with them I will confidently answer bitcoin of course !

Actually I have been sending money to a relative before using Western Union.
Bitcoin was introduced to me so I changed the way I am sending money to the certain relative. I send the same amount every mount and this is what I did.
I am using the calculation that Western Union is using but with the use of bitcoin. So there would be an excess always. I keep those excess money until I reach a year. Will tell you how much it is after.  Grin But I know I am saving a lot.

Bitcoin is not a local currency of any country and hence we need to pay atleast 5-7% conversion fee/withdrawal fee while withdrawing this currency via a bank in our local currency. However, it's still profitable for me as I live in India and we cannot send money via WU and Moneygram fee is also too high. But my family members are not even aware of this currency and hence they wouldn't be interested in receiving bitcoins instead of fiat. Only thing for me that has helped me a lot is selling my goods for bitcoins (physical and digital goods).

Bitcoin would definitely be faster when sending money across countries. Fees may still apply when claiming the remittance but this is usually much lower than those from traditional money transfer companies. There are even cases when the fee is waived for or rebated to the sender. Hopefully this stay this way. I don't know the technicalities of mining but I'm seeing complaints of unconfirmed transactions. I've not been affected (the web wallet I'm using is supposed to also be our local exchange, whatever that means) but I can just imagine how it sucks. Hoping it will be fixed soon.

we can not affirm bitcoin better than banks, because bitcoin and banks has advantages and disadvantages, they are different, no one can be compared accurately. Bitcoin ensure convenient and fast, but it can not guarantee 100% safety. In contrast, banks more legal, more procedures and takes longer to carry out transactions, however, it ensures the safety of our transaction. If I were to choose, I would prefer a combination of Bitcoin and banks. This is excellent

Op you are right, but tell me why we don't see bitcoin transfers dominating the remittance market?
We don't see Western Union, Money Gram or Ria filling bankruptcy papers do we?
Using Bitcoin is still confusing: first you have to buy BTC, then transfer it, and lastly your recipient needs to sell it.
Sending money through Western Union is filling one paper and that is basically it.

It is not a hard work to learn about sending and receiving money and yes it is true that you just need to fill one paper to send or receive money through Western union or money gram but what you are not telling is the travelling expense and the time you spend to reach the exchange and the long queues you have to stand to fill out the form finally ,with bitcoin you can control everything at the comfort of your surrounding .

You are right. As the number of transaction increase,so may transaction fees.
But bitcoin has another advantage, holding it may give you more profit.
When someone send you USD,for example, with PayPal, you get money in your local currency and not in dollar.
While a bitcoin sent is bitcoin received and a recipient may benefits from price fluctuations.

But you will need a 3rd party to convert your digital Bitcoin coins into local physical cash won't you? In other words you will have to deal with websites that can exchange your assets for cash. I call that 3rd parties.
I need 3rd parties. Everyone needs 3rd parties as well. Whoever objects to that is a dirty liar  Grin

Considering that it is enough to use a computer (or smartphone) and internet, things that most people have nowadays, the costs of sending money around the world actually become smaller. I have to add that the convenience of being able to use a payment system that does not requires bureaucratic procedures is something that attracts many users. I think there are a number of advantages that are easy to see when using this, and it's only a matter of time before people get more involved in using Bitcoin.

Exchanging with people would cost less than any third party, besides If you live in Arnhem Netherlands you don't need any third party.

But private Bitcoin sellers usually jack up the markup prices and you can end up paying more or receiving less for those coins than at a normal Bitcoin exchange. I am not familiar with the situation in Arnhem. What is so special about it? Are you able to use Bitcoin in shops and supermarkets or what?

to me, bitcoin not really affect to my daily life because I don't have much bitcoin and I'm not invest all of my money in bitcoin. But there are many positive things that bitcoin gave me. In the first time I start to look for information about bitcoin, I really excited and spent more than 2 days for searching btc relations. Its not really change my life but its improves my activities. I mean, I can earn about 0.001-0.005 bitcoin a day (not much but I can buy a meal with bread or noodle) so I have some extra fund to do/buy another things in my wish list.

And yes, I agree with you that bitcoin is helping many people, and its has lots of benefits so thats why i'm gonna spend more time to research and invest more fund to bitcoin and consider it is a good way to change my life

Using Bitcoin is still confusing: first you have to buy BTC, then transfer it, and lastly your recipient needs to sell it.
Sending money through Western Union is filling one paper and that is basically it.

Bitcoin users are still the minority. We are just a few percentage of the total population that uses fiat. Even if all bitcoin users stop using those services, they will not feel it yet. Would western union feel the pressure, no, not yet at least. Maybe in the future when we grow in numbers.

And the learning curve of using bitcoin is very small. Besides, you can do all that you said at the comfort of your home or do it on your mobile phone. There is no extra hassle of going outside and filling up forms.
