How do you convince people this isn't a scam?

It seems an awful lot like a pyramid scheme to me.

People on the ground floor get really really rich, and create a whole new currency out of thin air.

AMD cards mine more money, so AMD adds fake value to their cards, selling more.

Everyone I told about bitcoins say its a pyramid scheme... so how do I convince them otherwise?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

maybe you shouldn't try... some people are just stubborn and futher attempts at convincing them of something and they will just keep getting more defensive and building a wall between them and everything you try to tell them.

some people just have to discover things on their own.
