So many people asking this so I went and tried some well known botnet algos with x220 i7 2620m 8gb, 'rig' idles at 11W.

XZC 4 threads 93000h/s 44W at the wall, ? revenue
XMR 1 thread 77h/s 27W at the wall, $0.11/ day revenue
FTC 2 threads 9.7Kh/s 44W at the wall, $0.01/ day revenue

If you have better algos/ miners feel free to post them here.

PS. I am burning my own hardware.

edit: after reboot XMR 2 threads 107h/s 35W at the wall.

So basically if you run your laptop 24/7 for 30 days, after paying for electricity costs you are making 1-2$ profit at low power cost (0.06$/kWh) . So as expected it's not profitable at all and not to mention that laptops are not made to be ran 24/7 and that can seriously damage your hardware.

I was actually quite surprised how profitable it is for a botnet operator, if you are running a network of thousands of infected laptops even $0.05/ day gives you pretty nice daily cashflow.

But sure, not worth to start mining with your own laptop.

Absolutely, always mine with someone else's laptop.

Haha, you nailed it!

Joblo, what is the most profitable laptop-cpu-algo right now? Or is that a secret?

No secret, the biggest fastest i7 you can find.

If you're thinking power efficiency the way to go is with arrays of low power low cost CPUs with AES and AVX2.
Individual systems have too much overhead with mobo, PSU etc. If you can put a bunch on a PCIe card it would make
quite a mining platform. At 50W each you could easilly put 4 on a card. Imagine a 6 card rig with a big host CPU to boot.
But I'm not a HW guy so I'm just dreaming. From a SW perspective it would be nice to be able to run them all
in a single miner instance.

16 threads on the host + (6 compute cards * 4 cpus * 4 threads) = 128 CPU threads on a single rig.

Not a botnet apparently.

Not a first time when numbers don't match on that service.

How about this one?

So botnets went back to XMR mining after the short burst of profit with ZEC and XZC ?

I guess it is safe to say so, i72620m vs gpu:

93kH vs 880kH on xzc (gtx970)
109h vs 800h on xmr (generic amd)
10sol vs 300sol on zec (any amd/ nvidia)

Single-core ARM-R8 1GHz SBC computes at 0.02kH/s MYR; 0.6w at the wall.

Dust-mining with the best of 'em!

I expect to recoup my $9 investment in about six months.

You just killed myr market with that announcement, your private monster miner came out of nowhere. Please don't dump all your holdings.

To be on topic (haha!), looks like laptopminer needs cpu with 4MB (or more) of L3 cache. 100h/s on xmr and you are looking at $0.14/ day.
