PoS has been broken for several weeks now, it worked only the first few days I've used the client.

currently the code has an issue with how it manages difficulty (V1),
there is a switch over at block 70,000 (end of POW) which will change it's retargeting algorithm slightly (V2) and will start staking again.
(actually given that the code exists in a few other coins, i'm impressed it hasnt been an issue before)

so at the moment it doesnt seem like it ever wants to stake again ...
but it's only for the moment

even though it will switch over at block 70000 it's easily changed with a fork to change switch over block to an earlier block eg 55,000 as mentioned in the poll.

i think when Nobtcoin says "Start pure POS", they mean re-enable POS earlier rather than wait til block 70000.

personally i see advantages to both suggestions.

1. re-enable staking means staking will happen now
2. making the coin slightly harder to attain with a bit more investment needed through mining or purchase


i've come around to seeing option 2 as more interesting as people can still accumulate coins and be ready for block 70000 with their coins accruing age.

current retargeting (V1) obviously has issues with using a negative time difference,

my staked weight (22230) has finally gone above the network weight (17843)! according to the blockchain estimate, i should stake in 47 seconds. i understand a lot of people's frustrations regarding the staking with NOBT, but ive seen the same thing occuring with other projects as well, and the end of POW for those currencies is much further down the road than what is faced by this project. with NOBT approaching listing on exchanges via voting, at least ones a little more user friendly than whats available presently (as a personal preference), at least there can be some market movement of NOBT around. id hope that those whove mined it thru PoW will consider holding and staking their balances rather than simply dumping for a quick profit, with a decent APR this is a currency that can maintain a better valuation by having a slower inflation of coins in circulation. ive talked privately with the developer of NOBT a few times, and he comes across as a developer who is working to stay the course and build upon his currency to provide a more inclusive platform of services, but dealing with how the chain has reacted so far has taken a lot of his time. ive encouraged him to stay the course and keep putting in the thankless hours streamlining his presentation and building a community behind his project, crypto development is a tough job, even with ready-made cloned currencies, where a lot of those out for a quick buck dont care how it works or why, whereas "Nobtcoin" has asked a thousand questions about what can be done differently or done better, and that shows me that he's determined to stick the course on this project and make something out of it. a few weeks of patience, letting your balance collect coinage, (there is no StakeMaxAge, so you are still building your stake interest) in the grand scheme of things, isnt too bad an issue. my wallet still shows 23 active connections, so this coin is healthy, it just needs, like any balance... a little time to mature.

- stop nobtcoin service
-delete nobtcoin folder
-git new version 1100
-rebulid NOBT daemon (wallet)

If you're on Linux (I assume Ubuntu with a desktop environment) you should do the following:

0: BEFORE DOING ANYTHING BACKUP YOUR WALLET FIRST, JUST TO BE SAFE!!

1: Clone the wallet from Github by entering the following command in the terminal:
git clone https://github.com/nobtcoin/Nobtcoin.git

2: Install the dependencies needed to run the coin if you haven't already:
sudo apt-get install qt5-default qt5-qmake qtbase5-dev-tools qttools5-dev-tools \
    build-essential libboost-dev libboost-system-dev \
    libboost-filesystem-dev libboost-program-options-dev libboost-thread-dev \
    libssl-dev libdb++-dev libminiupnpc-dev -y

3: After the dependencies are installed enter the following commands in the terminal. (cd to the nobtcoin dir
qmake && make

4: After the wallet is compiled you can run it by double clicking the executable in the nobtcoin folder or you can enter the following command in the terminal:
./nobtcoin-qt

If you just need the daemon (no GUI) following the dev's instructions a few posts above.
If you upgrade the wallet before block 56k, keep in mind that your might experience high resource usage. This is (I think) because on the network staking kicks in at 56k blocks but your wallet is continuously looking to stake. In my case, according to the wallet I would earn a stake reward in 0 minutes but that doesn't happen.

If this is causing problems turn off staking (until block 56k).
You can do this by creating a config file called nobtcoin.conf in the .nobtcoin folder (hidden folder in your Home folder) and entering the following option:
staking=0

You can turn staking back on by deleting the staking=0 line or changing the line to staking=1
