Hi Bitcoiners,

we are running the Bitfilm Festival for digital film and we would like to promote Bitcoin - not just because of the similarity of our names but because we think it is a really fascinating concept that we would like to support.

Founded in 2000, the Bitfilm Festival has been showing digital animations and VFX driven films ever since. We were the first festival with competitions for Machinima and Realtime Demos. Since 2006 we show all films on the Net and let users worldwide decide by an online vote on the award winners. The festival happens on the Net, in Hamburg (Germany) and in one other city. After Barcelona and Tel Aviv, this year the festival's closing event with the award ceremony will take place in Bangalore (India). More info here: http://www.bitfilm.com/festival

Our idea is to pay the prize money to the award winners in Bitcoins. Many of the filmmakers may not have heard of Bitcoin before, but this is hopefully going to change. We will heavily promote Bitcoin as the preferred currency of our festival, so I hope this would help to spread the idea even further.

We want to run a crowd funding campaing and ask all participating film makers and all film fans who watch and vote for the films to donate some Bitcoins (or fractions of it) to our account. We will then share the total amount between the award winners.

What do you think of that? It would be great if we could get the support of the Bitcoin community for our campaign. And maybe some of the Bitcoin billionaires who not so long ago have spent 10 000 Bitcoins on a pizza would like to kickstart our campaign by donating a bit of their self-mined fortune?

Best regards

Aaron Koenig
Managing director
Bitfilm Networks GmbH

P.S. Here you can watch some documentaries on past editions of the festival: http://www.youtube.com/bitfilm
P. S. And here are two articles I wrote about Bitcoin. They are in German but maybe some automatic translation programme can produce some funny sounding kauderwelsch out of it:

I moved this from the Newbie forum-- looks like a great project!

How often do you get the chance to work on a potentially world-changing project?

This is pretty damn huge actually, I hope this gets a good amount of support, would be nice public PR for Bitcion without the coin itself being the focus Smiley

I like this idea as I'm a filmmaker myself. Is this still going? How are films submitted? How do I protect my copyrights when I submit my works? There need to be runner up prizes in BTC as well so as to encourage more people to enter.

Thanks

Maybe you should extend collaboration to all bitcoiners and filmmakers like myself, that way we can really make things happen and take off. :-)
I'd welcome the ability to raise bitcoins to fund film projects as I have several that need to be funded but each one has to be dealt with individually)

Also I think the bitfilm guys should take note of the need to attract filmmakers by making sure that copyright/theft doesn't become an issue (as I wish to have some control of my copyrights even though I understand and accept that full copyright isn't always possible in all cases).

Hello, yes this will be open to all bitcoiners and filmmakers  Grin  I'll be reaching out to the bitfilm guys soon and maybe copyright/theft can be solved by some sort of small bitcoin deposit before viewing the video or something ( then returned). I know there are plenty of bitcoin digital download content help systems out there not sure if you've seen them?

It's amazing what you'll find when you search for BitcoinPorn and film. Now that I'm here, whatever became of this project? Is Aaron still around?
