I would double check in Task Mananger to make sure there isn't one already running and kill it otherwise. Restarting Windows is also an option if you haven't done that yet. If you are still unable to open it, I would try removing the config file from your User directory which should be located at C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\config Try this and then restart it and see if it loads.

Hi, I have the exact same problem under Windows 7. As I mentioned in some other thread here: btw I just installed Electrum, I created a standard wallet, got back a 'seed' to store on paper and then... nothing. Electrum won't start.
I un-installed it and re-installed it and still, when clicking on it, it kind of starts, I see for a second the task icon on my task bar, and then it's gone. This under Windows 7 with the standard installator. I'm not getting a security feeling about all this. Is it a known problem?

The latest is 2.7.18 so make sure you are using that if you aren't. Did you try removing the config file as shown above to see if that resolves the issue?

As alternative you can download the portable version and run that one (you will have to find your wallet though). I made some tests some months ago on this problem and if Electrum cannot access/write its data it may indeed not start.

Yes, I just downloaded it so I run the last one (2.7.18). I deleted config and then it seemed to start, asking me for a server but after "next" it died, again. So, I deinstalled it and I'm trying out MultiBit, instead. thnx

Before migrating to Multibit HD (which I don't recommend as Electrum is much better wallet) try the last step here.
1. Make sure you have saved the SEED of the Electrum wallet. 2. Uninstall Electrum from Add/Remove Programs in Windows 7 3. Go to C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\Electrum and remove electrum.dat file 4. Restart PC 5. Install Electrum and choose the option I already have a Seed to restore it from the Seed.
If this doesn't work, something is wrong with your PC and not electrum I am afraid.

he said he had already uninstall/installed electrum and also there is no such file called electrum.dat in that location! are you by any chance copying these steps from an old topic about version 1.8? i also hope OP could have provided more information about this problem, although i have never had this problem myself i have seen a couple of others having the same issue but they never stay around to fix it! we never find out if it was really a problem with electrum or they were doing something wrong.

Yeah, if there is indeed an issue with Electrum on some PCs from initial installation, it would be great to be able to isolate the bugs so they can be patched. I've seen several similar reports from new users but not sure what would be causing this.

I don't copy. I try to offer my help to anyone who needs it. I read the thread and I didn't see anywhere that he fully uninstalled electrum like the method I explained above that's why I told him to try my steps as a last resource before migrating to Multibit. He said he deleted the config file and not deleted completely the wallet file. Anyway I hope OP has solved the issue yet.

update: after a new installation of Win7 I re-install Electrum and it seems to work alright. I have even transferred some BCs to it.

now I install Electrum to a Windows 10 PC and again, the very same issue!
I tried deleting the ../roaming/Electrum folder, deleting config.. Nothing works.
It's what I ask from a wallet. Stability (in sucking).

Are you using the installed version or the standalone executable? If using the installer version, maybe you will have more luck with the standalone executable version. Not sure why you are seeing so many issues.

I had exactly the same issue just now. Try this: 1. Check if your Windows username (XXX) is spelled in latin letters: C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Electrum If not find a way to change the username to include only latin letters. 2. Or else just lauch portable version of Electrum from a USB drive (that's what I did).
