Hello,

I want someone w/experience building mining rigs to construct a litecoin mining rig.
You pick parts, I'll order and ship to you for assembly and software installation, then you ship to me.

/msg me to get started, looking to kick this off asap.

About me: Been trading BTC since 2011. Mined in both BTC and LTC pools. Have 4x BFL Sept 2012 pre-orders (..probably never see those...)
Willing to pay BTC or USD or LTC for work.

I would not mind doing this for a small fee if you are local to Philly. How will you ensure that someone don't just run with your parts?

Litecoin rigs aren't necessarily complex.

I have some already-built-and-mining rigs doing LTC, that I'd consider selling whole if the price was right.

Right now I have a quad 7950 rig running in an "open frame" with powered riser cables that makes around 2.275MH/s at the factory clocks.

I'd let it go for BTC20, shipping included within ConUS.  Maybe that's a high price, but I don't really wanna sell it.

If you're serious about this there's several questions people will need to know:

what's your budget?
what kind of performance are you looking for?
how hot is the room you're going to put the rigs in?

You can probably put this together yourself, it's not all that hard.

PM me and I'll help get you started or if you really want we can work it out so I build it for you, either way.

Hey,

Thanks to everyone that has reached out - I've talked to some great people. I'm moving ahead with two gentlemen, they know who they are and feel free to comment here.

I'm building two rigs, both with 4x7950s but different components.
Each is coming in around 2k.

One will run windows, the other linux. As far as location, they will probably be stored at a friend who has a cool basement and low energy costs. After burn in and tweaking that is.

Still interested in speaking to others, but the ball is moving.
Thanks again for all the great feedback.

Update:

Spoke to a few more people, been meeting a lot of smart folks and having a great time talking rigs.
I've also been approaching about mining contracts - while they worked well in the past (~2011) I think I'd prefer to be owning / operating the equipment myself.
However, I'm not opposed to chatting.

Parts should be coming this week for the 1st rig and ordered a second this week. One will run here and one will run remote. I'll keep the thread updated w/my experience w/forum members.

Hello,

I believe I am one of the lucky persons who will be assembling a litecoin rig for mr-sk. After extensive talks thru email and phone I believe we have come up with a decent solution.

The parts with come from Newegg at a cost of $1947.48 shipped. There was an agreed upon setup fee of $100. There will be some additional costs. 4x 12" PCIe risers at about $20. There will be around $30-$50 into the open air case that I am constructing.

Grand total: $2117.48
Estimated performance:  2400-2800 kh/s
Estimated ROI: 120 days

I will be offering this service to anyone interested. I have over 10 years of custom pc builds. I have excellent references both personal and thru social media. Not only will I be more than happy to build any custom system, I am offering hosting/maintenance for these as well. If interested please send me a PM or email me at zif33rs@hotmail.com

Once the machine is up and running I will post pictures of the build process and video of the performance.

Thanks
zif

Sounds good.  Don't forget to use powered risers if you're running more than 3 cards.

Some of the pricing has changed. But this is optimal. Could save a few bucks here and there but this will have resale value and longevity.

I wouldn't recommend this. Spending money to try and 'save' resale value doesn't work - you save a higher percentage of a higher number.

Don't need an optical drive or an SSD.  A 2GB USB flash drive is fine.

8GB of memory is overkill.  2GB is fine.

Be aware that this Sapphire rebate is limited to one unit per household, so don't count on being able to redeem all of them.  I found this out the hard way, myself.

Thanks for the info - I think having the SSD drive does make it easier to debug the unit though if something happens.
The USB drive can be finicky IMO.

I thought I've read many times that LTC rigs need the memory - I don't know why, but that seemed to be commonly recited.
If that's not correct, care to explain why? I'd love to learn (and save money in the process) ...

USB Flash has always worked well for me with no weirdness using 2GB Kingston DataTravelers.  I guess if you got bad flash drives you may have a problem.  A hard drive or PXE works too.

I've heard that too about RAM, but I can say that I have 3 rigs right now with 4 cards each that do Scrypt just fine with 2GB of RAM, and show plenty of memory free.  I run BAMT on mine, which uses a 32-bit non-PAE kernel, so they can't see more than about 3GB anyway.

Appreciate all the reply's!  Thanks.

The memory requirements are for when you run Reaper. If you are using cgminer or something else it is not an issue. As I kinda hinted at before...I could chop quite abit off the price..but at the cost of reliability and IMO performance. The build profile calls for maximum kh/s..as I am hosting this myself in my shop the kw/h's is not a factor. There are really no other considerations.

This is not what the customer asked for and frankly something I would probably not choose to build. I have over a decade of building hi performance computers...with several WORLD RECORDS. Any web search will show my name at several reputable overclocking forums. Until one of you can show me a similar resume...how to put this nicely....I thank you but no thanks.

As I stated before...once the build is up and running I will post the results.

Lots of great chat going on.
Zif and I are working on a rig, just ordered it up. We'll keep the thread going w/details, pictures, etc.

For everyone else, my apologies if I haven't responded to PMs. Been a bit overwhelmed with offers and sorting through all my thoughts, and doing a ton of forum research/reading in the meantime.

I can help you pick parts and assemble. No fees required but tip would be greatly appreciated! Where are you located?
I'm in NY - always willing to talk.

Hey, thanks for the offer. Not for me, but I'm sure it'll sell quick. GLWS.

For absolutely no personal gain if you want to pm me the final components I can give them a quick check over. I'm sure everything will be great but can't hurt to have another pair of eyes.

Thanks for the offer - the build list is public in the previous posts. I'm also down to chat more about builds, but zif and I have worked out a solid deal moving forward and looking forward to it. As he mentioned, this build is unique because it's hosted and the power prices are "almost negligible".

The other great guy on here is delarock and MKEGuy - both doing some work and talking about future projects, etc.

For now I think I have enough things in the works (and money tied up) that I'm going to just move w/the guys that already know who they are - so I won't be fielding additional offers at this time, but feel free to chat or /pm me. Still love to chat about BTC and other currencies.

Cool - good to know about the RAM. Thanks.

I will use a dvd drive from another system to load the OS. I will fabricate the case/rack/box/thingy when the components get here and post the materials and price. I will do my best to document everything and post some nice pic's for everyone to troll over.  Cool

Machine is assembled by Zif today. Awaiting some pictures and details of the build, but spoke over email.
Hope to see the hashing numbers shortly ... big DDoS day in the LTC world so most of the sites are down or up and down over the last few hours.

Wow...busy week. I have a small update. I have completed most of the open air frame and am now working on wiring it up. Should have the rest ready tommorrow afternoon.

Please check out my website www.hostedmining.com..working on that as well. More content to follow.

This is the 1st prototype. I have already found some better materials to make the uprights and the crossbars. This is pretty sturdy yet still light weight..I will improve upon it.

zif

p.s. Still waiting on the x16 by x16 PCIe risers..the x1 by x16 w/molex I used in these picks are for mock up only. :/

I'm one of Zif's customers and found his services through this thread, so I thought I should provide an update about this excellent service.

Zif was very helpful in preparing the parts list and answering questions.

Once the hardware was shipped to him, he assembled, installed, and configured the rig in a very short time.
He had the system pointed to the pool of my choice in less than a day after the shipment.

Even though the fourth GPU required the use of risers which were waiting on a separate order, he had three GPUs running for me during those days. Once the risers arrived, the hardware setup was rapidly upgraded for all 4 GPUs, and the mining configuration was updated.

The rig has been running for over a week now, and I'm very happy with the whole process from start to finish.

It's been very smooth and professional. Thank you Zif and Hostedmining.com Smiley
