I am currently in Afghanistan but my mother is taking care of my dogs. My mother is retired so I do not want her to have to spend a lot of money on the dogs so I take care of their expenses.

I am also making a bit more money than I used to so I can stop giving them the processed nasty food (that is probably contributing to my dog's alergies and itching). So I decided to get them some good healthy organic dog food with no preservatives. After checking out different companies I decided to try http://www.orijen.ca/ brand dog food. Their site has a list of online vendors.

I went to their online vendors and found the one with the best price and free shipping.

I found the dog food I wanted. Copied the product page link. Pasted the link into the easy form at http://www.bitspend.net and put my mother's address in there and placed my order.

A few hours later bitspend got back with me and gave me an invoice with a bitcoin payment link. I clicked on the link and paid with my bitcoin client.

Quite simple, order placed and my dogs get some quality dog food. I did not need to search for bitcoin merchants, I could go with the best product I could find on the Internet.

No more need to spend dollars on the Internet anymore.

First seastead company actually selling sea homes: Ocean Builders https://ocean.builders  Of course we accept bitcoin.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Not to be a pedant, but you actually traded your BTC for USD and then bitspend bought the dogfood for you with USD.  It's not really the same as buying it directly with BTC.  So your post title is kind of disingenuous.

Bitspent is an excellent intermediary which hopefully will help pave the way to widespread bitcoin use. It doesn't support an all inclusive BTC economy, but it does give people a means of using their bitcoin in an easy manner.

I bought a new wallet. Smiley

From Elwar's perspective, I don't agree.  He sent Bitcoins and his dogs got food.  This level of ease is exactly what Bitcoin needs more of to gain more traction as a 'currency'.  This helps answer the question "Great, but what can I DO with it or buy with them?", at least in my opinion.

When I swipe a piece of plastic, I don't care about what happens in the middle, as long as I can buy my groceries or pay for the meal I just finished eating.

+1 If these types of services become widespread, people are no longer required to hold dollars. Yeah sure, for a brief moment, the coins are converted to dollars by a third party processor to facilitate the transaction. But now we can have salaries in bitcoin, etc... There are many gradual and necessary steps bitcoin must take to achieve widespread usage.

+1  Exactly this.   If enough bitpay services get accepted, one day a smart shopkeep will realize he doesn't need the middle man and accept them directly.  This is a stop-gap to bridge the knowledge-gap required to use bitcoins.

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://bitspend.net

So the site has been around for about 2 months? I searched in the Press section for any references but it seems that nobody has reported about it.

This may be the main thread:
Bitspend has an amazing first week!

There may still be hope for the 1st decentralized cryptocurrency which is Bitcoin. How to approach different subjects is key to progress.

Yep, they have just popped up recently and from the sound of it they are catching on very well.

They have their own subreddit here:
https://reddit.com/r/bitspend

I see them as a good business like BitPay. BitPay is working with merchants to get them to start accepting bitcoins. BitSpend is working with consumers to get them to start spending bitcoins. The better they both do, the better off we will be in the long run.

And it allows me to more easily move out of government money.

Orijen is one of the better dry foods, but the best way to get rid of the allergies and itching is give them fresh raw meat, you can buy those premade and frozen or do it yourself. I always go for the frozen ones (smuldier) and they do great on it and they really love it. From time to time they also get raw fish and eggs as an extra. Giving dogs dry food how good the quality may seems is like if you would ate every day mac donalds for the rest of your life, day in day out without anything else, you'll survive but it's not healthy. A dog needs fresh raw meat and not grain with a percentage of dried meat waist.

But to get more on topic on the bitcoin part  Tongue
I like the idea that I can pay everywhere with bitcoin, but preferred if I didn't need a middle man but I think these services are great to deal with the "only few people use them as currency because nobody accepts them and nobody accepts them because only few use them as a currency" problem.
