I'm looking at dustcoin.com right now and It's telling me that with my minimal setup I'll make a little bit more mining Novacoins instead of litecoins. However I haven't read anything good about Novacoins so I was wondering if it was even worth it.

Im mining novacoin for 2 weeks by now and Im sorry I listened to some big mouth trolls and I didnt jumped on this train earlier when dif was lower. Novacoin is a bit more or on par with litecoin.I traded novacoin for no problems at btc-e.com.

It's proof-of-stake + scrypt based coin. Originally it was forked from PPCoin, but for now the development went in own way.

There are not so many differences for LTC miner, except for 520 confirmations required for immature coins.

Other differences:

  • 10 minute block targets;
  • Minimum PoS difficulty is 0.001, minimum PoW difficulty identical to TBX/FBX/LTC/whatever;
  • Difficulty retarget performed every new block

If you have enough hash rate, I recommend you to use p2pool. You can find simple guide for the windows users here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=143221.msg1769236#msg1769236

Also you can ask your questions in this topic.

For mining with cgminer/guiminer-scrypt do I need to do anything different other than putting in the new urls?

No, only setup p2pool and point your miners to http://127.0.0.1:8336.

Of course, you can mine at khore or another pool, if you like it. But I like nvc p2pool, obviously because it's my creation Cheesy

P.S. you can see your personal p2pool stats at http://127.0.0.1:8336/static. The general pool stats available at http://p2pool.novaco.in/.

Do you need to be a relativity large miner to use the p2pool or can it be done with a small setup?

0,6-1 mhash/s will be enough for this.
