When your awareness of BTC grew to the point where you started to properly learn about it, what were the things that initially befuddled you? I don't necessarily mean the tech stuff, I'll never wrap my head around that, but perhaps the behaviour of people in the Bitcoin scene.

For me at least it was the screaming obviousness of the amateurism that abounded and the willingness of people to trust others who blatantly didn't have a clue.

A case in point is Gox. When I got rolling it was still the go to place officially endorsed by everyone. Within a few minutes' investigation I could not believe anyone would entrust a $1.46 Starbucks gift card to such a joke of an operation, let alone real money. Then I read the entire Pirateat40 thread and my tits nearly flew off.

Seriously I still haven't learnt much about bitcoin and still got surprised when I discover something new about bitcoin.

Bitcoin security really got me in the early days, and i dont mean the security of bitcoin itself i mean my efforts to keep my bitcoin safe.  i remember being heart scared to move my bitcoin from blockchain.info in fear that they would be lost and even when i did send bitcoin i was sure i had messed up and would never be sent.  lol i have came on abit since then

I am also not and expert in bitcoin yet. The idea of bitcoin as money was cleared to me from the beginning, but I still opening to myself the technology of Blockchain, especially new adds and things make me confused sometimes, but on the Internet there is a lot of information, so I don't have any big problem with understanding.

I'm in bitcoin world for more than two years now, but it's still like rocket science for me. It's hard to understand lot of technical details of bitcoin, blokchain, mining process and so on. But I don't think that I need to have deep knowledge about bitcoin, I'm only one of average users of bitcoin.
When I was newbie, I was worried that bitcoin isn't used friendly technology. I was thinking that bitcoin have only one official wallet - bitcoin core, which uses lot of computer resources. But later on bitcoin.org found some user-friendly wallets and finally I started my bitcoin journey.

Until now I am still confused, how can people created their own digital money and it was accepted by other people and now it become so valuable, even though I am already more than two years joined crypto currencies world, some of the technical things still confusing me, like how does segwit works, and why there is different mining pool, there are so many things in crypto currencies that still need to be explored

The whole thing was baffling to me at first, just the simple mechanics of sending and receiving bitcoin.  I'm not a tech/math geek, so the fundamentals of the cryptography involved did (and still do) escape me.  But I found that I really didn't need to understand the math behind bitcoin to use it, much like I don't need to understand everything that goes on with my bank in order to use a debit card.

I didn't own bitcoin back when Mt. Gox was in action, but I remember the huge discrepancy in price between them and other exchanges, and that had me scratching my head.  It definitely was obvious that it was incredibly risky to have money on that exchange, hence its price was so much higher than everyone else.  The fact that there were so many unregulated fly-by-night exchanges was weird, too.  And it's still weird to me.

The level of ignorance and people who do not try to make an effort to learn and know more is what is befuddling me. They all keep saying the same thing all the time even if you already have pointed out that they are making a mistake. Maybe sometimes they do not go thru the effort of reading the thread because they are lazy.

I am curious about the Pirateat40 thread. That looks like another good juicy part of Bitcoin's history. Please give us the link. Thanks.

I guess initially I had a misconception as to the duration of 2 weeks.  I didn't realize there were actually regional differences in time.  For example, I ordered some mining devices from a comapny based in Kansas which were shipped in 2 weeks but their two weeks turned out to be 7 months in Canadian time and when they finally arrived, the taxes payable to my gov't were more than I could make running the miners.  I wont order anything from Kansas ever again.

I have spend my time in bitcoin a while now but really i don't know whats the main point of bitcoin i just earn it and exchange it to real money and obviously bitcoin is one of the most big time money in the internet today bitcoin has greater amount to those who are the same as bitcoin but i experience it alone i read some of the article and the topic on what is bitcoin so just the basic part of it but i want to know how do you use it the bitcoin itself what purpose is it to the internet world.

When I Firstly Came to Know About Bitcoin then I Don't Know About the Various Ways of Earning Bitcoin So I Have to Claim Free Bitcoins From Faucets Only and this is Such a Time Waste and Also in Beginning I Don't Know About that I Can Set Transaction Fees Myself But Now I Know All About Bitcoin and Also Finding New Things About Bitcoin.....

When I first came to bitcoin, I know that is crypto-currency and you earn,
receive and transfer money. But I didn't know that you can actually lend bitcoin
for investment purposes and possible to generate 10-25 % yield in a month.
Another thing I didn't know initially, is the on-line bitcoin gambling site that accepts
bitcoins, which is very popular now. Then came earning from faucets, and other
 methods to earn it. Today, bitcoin is now accepted that it is possible to pay for nearly
anything, although not yet everywhere.

Regarding the behavior of bitcoiners, I was surprised by the number of folks who are willing to "invest" in obvious bitcoin-based ponzi schemes.

I am also surprised by the hatred of some bitcoiners toward Coinbase, which I believe provides a valuable on-ramp for newbies who may lack the knowledge and confidence to otherwise acquire and securely store bitcoin.

Not in the sense that I didn't know to operate them, but in how they operated and why they operated in such ways. (Paper wallets / QR codes / Also even the Blockchain : those kind of stuff always made me curious)

Honestly, at first all i think about bitcoin is earning money but as time goes by, i found out that earning money is not only the things we can get in bitcoin as well as the freedom. In bitcoin we can get the ideas and information that we can't get to someone or through the internet, also we can share the things we know about bitcoin. Through this, i also tried to have my own wallet and do some transactions.

This is bordering on the technical but I still have no idea how transcations are processed. The only vague idea I have about it is that the transactions are somehow "queued" and the miners prioritize the one with larger transaction fees. This is why up to this point I'm still using online wallets. I'm starting to read about software wallets (I'll probably never get to the point of having to buy the hardware one), just in case I'd need to switch to those.

Oh yes! I'm already using my online wallet to load my phone credits but still have little idea on how the transactions actually operate.
