I have put up my bank account for verification, but they say it is on backorder, so it could be a couple weeks. Honestly this is a huge inconvinience, and is my first time dealing with any exchanges. At this point I am just hoping I will get my money back.

thats stage one of the kubler-ross model of grief.  'denial'. then comes anger, bargaining , depression then finally acceptance. You will be okay. I guess the good thing about bitcoin is anyone can open an exchange, but on the bad side things like this are going to happen.

I gotta say, I'd ask them to cut me a check and send it in the mail, with a tracking number.
There isn't any need for them to have your bank account information, in my opinion.  People have been using paper checks for a long long time.

I'm beyond trusting people that hold my money and put hoops between me and my money.

I wonder if these people ever considered what will happen if they accidentally steal/hold the money that is being laundered by a mafia/gang smurfer. I'm not saying that you would be one of those people, buuut.... that's a genius idea... steal money from the black market users.  =)  I hope they have an updated will.  =)
