Usually , there isn't much difference between the exchanges but I will give you a better example to understand.

If 1 BTC = 1000$ and you use 500$ then you will get 0.5 BTC. ((500$*1) / 1000$)
If 1 BTC = 1200$ and you use 500$ you will receive like 0.41 BTC. ((500$*1) / 1200$)

In other words , the lower the price is in fiat , the more bitcoins you get If that make sense.

you buy from a "site" that is legit, regardless of the price. it means if that site is offering 1441 CAD (current price) you still choose that site over the other one that offers lower price such as 1300 CAD.

don't get greedy just for a smaller price.

and to figure out how much you can get just put that amount (500 CAD) into the textbox saying buy and see how much bitcoin you can get. because there is a fee (usually 0.2%) that you also have to pay.

Hello, just put in your mind that you have to buy to an exchanger that sells at a cheaper price than other (considering the site you are comparing to be legit). To know how much do you get, just divide the amount you want to convert to btc by the price of btc then, that's it.

it is basic math, so yes!
and what number are you talking about? if the platform is based on bitcoin (BTC) then you put in bitcoin amount for example 0.5BTC, etc
but it can be based on other units such as mBTC = 0.00100000 BTC
or uBTC = 0.00000100BTC
or bits = 0.00000100BTC

but usually you can also fill in the USD value and the bitcoin you can buy is calculated and shown to you.

It really depends on the exchange , sometimes they allow you to put the price in $ then they do the math themselves for the bitcoins and yes you can add three numbers with no issue , It will simply add a few cents more to the price and I really don't see what you couldn't understand here , It's logical , you buy low and you sell high, so If both exchanges are legit , I'd recommend going with the one that sells for a lower price.

Yes, you got it right. And about the digits, it's really up to you, as long as you can still afford the price you are buying.
I understand why you are having these questions. I hope all the people will do.

It all depends upon the user who's buying it. As a newbie to buy bitcoin its good to go through the different exchange and trading website to find the best price. Now you can make the buying from the trader who provides the highest price as well the convenience in the transfer of fund in exchange for noticing.

I'm just using it for online poker so I wanted to ask you this if you could help me

If the price says.  1380.50.  Cad.    and then other market says 1456.98.     which site do I buy from? sorry I know it's a noob question. so If I were to buy 500 cad how much would I get at both prices

that is probably arbitrage mate, just buy where it's cheaper, in yoru case buy on the first exchange, with the first exchange spending 500 cad will give 500/1380 you 0.36 btc, with the second one 500/1456 you have 34, therefore you lose 0.02 btc with the second exchange

The best thing to do is to is to go to cryptocompare to check on what sites has the best price for the coin that you want to buy. After checking the market button there will be a list of sites that sell that kind of coin with a corresponding price. Choose the site that has the lowest price and then login and make a buy transactions.

Very good disucssion. I fully understand what you're talking about. The decision to buy a coin should be based on real analysis of the coin. I found that people keep buying coins without have any knowledge of them. This is considered high risk.  Personally I always use:  https://www.coincheckup.com They seem to give this complete indepth analysis of all cryptocoins.  Go to:  https://www.coincheckup.com/coins/Bitcoin#analysis To check  Bitcoin Report.
