New Bitcoin owner looking for "FREE" resource guidance

Hi Everyone.  I recently purchased bitcoins during the rally period <read this as lost some value already> but have not given up.  I am looking for two things if anyone can help:
        1- "Free" material directions to learn more about bitcoins
         2- How to get started in Ripple with XRP

I currently have my account with MtGox and want to find out what my options are for transferring elsewhere and how Ripple can offer better services.

I know these may sound like really dumb, basic questions but it is the only way I know how to reach out so I can learn and gain knowledge.
