Hello,

I was going to purchase another GPU to add to my PC's for mining. I had decided to purchase the Sapphire RX 480 4GB Nitro+ but then I found an Asus RX 470 4GB Strix for a lot lower price.

Now, I know that the Nitro+ card is supposed to be better (even though it's the 4GB version) but the price difference here in Sweden for these two cards is pretty big.

The Sapphire RX 480 4GB costs €243.
The Asus Strix RX 470 4GB costs €200.
And as a reference, the Sapphire RX 480 8GB costs €296.

I've got an RX 470 8GB Nitro+ and an RX 480 4GB Nitro+. The 480 does better, but not that much better. The question is, since the Asus 470 is €40 cheaper, perhaps it's not worth getting the 480? It would take a long time to earn back those €40 since the difference in mining speed isn't that much higher. It's not like it's 50% higher or anything. It would take about a year to earn back those extra €40 if my calculations are correct.

My current 480 4GB Nitro+ gets about 12% more mining speed than my 470 8GB Nitro+ when mining Pascal.

I might be wrong though, so please enlighten me if I am, I would love to be proven wrong.

What are your thoughts on the issue?

Thank you in advance!

In cases like yours where there is price difference go for RX 470. Performance between two 4gb cards isn't worth it.

Are you saying that it's not worth €43 more to get the 480? Then again, it's 20% more expensive.

It's not. Price difference between the two isn't worth it because RX 470 is also more power efficient than RX 480. If you take that two into account you'll see that you will hit ROI faster with 470

Agreed with eckmar, get the 470. 20% price difference is just too much regarding the slight hasrate improvement you will get out of a 480 (which comes along with a slightly high power usage)
