I want to also start betting on football and basketball but all the tips I find in the prediction threads are fake, meaning they only post or spam their predictions but did not bet on them. What sites do you go to to find information about sports?

Thanks for sharing dude, I would appreciate if you would make a write ups in every picks you'll share. I love sports betting and I love to see the opinion of other people especially those who are doing this kind of job for a long time, I feel the confident of pushing my bet when I see I am on the same side of such tipster I follow.

If I make a decsion to pick 30min or 15min out then I dont have time to:
Place the bet
Enter the bet at third party tracking site
Give the pick in the telegram channel
share the pick on twitter
and then come post here, by that time the game started and there is no write up about it.

Hi krach.  I wanna learn more about sports betting and get better at it.  I know it will take more than following the tips that you and others make available.  I wanna learn more about the math behind it and the 'hows' of formulating a good strategy.  Can you recommend me any books that I can read?  There aren't much reliable sports betting info available online.  Some good website suggestions (besides yours) will be truly appreciated as well.  Thanks.

That is a good place to start. You dont need to be a quant to make good bets.
Use what you are good at, a trading background is good, there is a lot of overlap.

Thanks.  I'll start reading that as soon as I have the time and have a clear mind for it.

One thing I would like to ask you is what do you think of 'Weighing the Odds in Sports Betting' by King Yao?  The guys in the 2+2 forum swear by it.  I have read his poker book but I found it dated.  So there might be a chance that Weighing the Odds might be dated too, or does that even matter?  What do you think?  Thanks again.

Sure weighing odds is good.
In the end you are going to have to use some discretion. Sure you could have it all mapped out in your model but where did the model come from?

I think the odds look good for Woodly this weekend, I will bet more units on that. It is pertty subjective (Discretionary). Generaly I am more willing to add units to an underdog (value) than an even money or favorite pick. Even if they are only on paper a "slight underdog" as Woodly is.

I look at people that use models and weigh every bet very technicaly like algo traders and ones that dont do that as pure discretionary traders.
I use both but lean more to the discretion side. I like to use volume of money and bets on each side together with team stats and subjective feeling of if teams are tired or modivated ect.

The people only using technical models are going to miss the fine points of teams being modivated or give some stats more value. For example a NFL team defense like Texas was rated high but also had one of the shortest ammounts of time on the field. Will the technical guys over rate their defense? Something to at least keep in mind.

Use what works for you and suits your strong points, if you are into math and stats anyway then explore that route. If you are more into the sport itself and like to study fine points about what is going on in teams and players minds and style match ups then go that route.
