What happened:

I made a post looking for Starbucks gift cards. I recieved a PM from Darkwinde saying to contact through skype. After negotiating user agreed to sell me $100 Starbucks for $50. Normally I'd use escrow but given their hero member account I stupidly agreed to send half first and half after. After sending the $25 the seller immediately stopped responding.

Amount Scammed:

$25

Payment Method:

Bitcoin

Proof of Payment:

Additional Notes:

Apparently a new user is also accusing them of scamming. Not sure if it's credible or not, but I think it's likely that Darkwinde is PMing other users looking to scam them. Darkwinde's email has also been changed recently.

It would be better to use an escrow regardless of the rank of the member you are making the deal with, because some of the accounts might be hacked or sold.

sorry for your loss.

The email was reset before sending the bitcoins? Any way someone from DT should tag that member.

No Hero Accounts worth At least .2BTC (Maybe a little bit cheap not sure)

The account probably got hacked , he didn't post for a long time (since 19th January) after changing his password on 20th February, he starting posting again.

He could've simply sell the account and get more then 25$ but the fact that he decided to scam instead means that he is not able to provide a signed message to sell his account which again , makes me think that this account got hacked.

Generally you look for password and email changes. After this you can look whether the user had any recent successful trade history. This is not the case with this user. It's unfortunate that you've suffered a loss. Anyhow, I have tagged them.

It would be better to use an escrow regardless of the rank of the member you are making the deal with, because some of the accounts might be hacked or sold.
Definitely. This makes the trade 99% safer if we consider potential escrow exit scams (which are not likely with small amounts of money).

Thanks for your support. I mainly just wanted to make sure people were warned. The transaction just felt wrong the entire time and it's my own fault for getting scammed. Given how active he's been lately I just wanted people knew what he's up to.
