We don't have craiglist, but instead, leboncoin:
https://www.leboncoin.fr/
That beeing said, even if i come across the coin, what can/should i do Huh
Make an appointment and beat the crap out of him.

Inform authorities that you have spotted a stolen item of yours on the internet and that you have made an appointment with the seller and you would like them to cone with you.

Grin Grin I don't know the behavior of the court abroad, but in France i would certainly go to jail. Indeed,
that's what happen when a robber get killed, even inside a private area like a private house at night.

I would do, but i doubt the police would be of any help. I'm not even sure i would be taken seriously. Moreover, the seller might not the thief, in case he (she?) already to sold it to a third party.

To me it is the Post Office and only the Post Office who is responsible for the loss. They have to compensate accordingly.

I will keep an eye out too on ebay etc
Thanks. Just wondering, does Ebay provide a feature based on keywords to be warned automatically?

I have not seen that feature but I go there four times a week

-----Bump-----
I know that this topic is nearly 5 years old...
However, i still can't accept the loss...
I just check and it looks as if the coin has still not been redeemed.
It should be somewhere...but where???

Id say the best news is that 5 years later and the coin hasnt been swiped. This forum and posts regarding this issue will serve as evidence and proof of ownership should you ever go to court. If and when it gets swiped it may be possible to track that address to an owner as long as their here in the US. Sorry this happened to you. Ill be watching for those first bits. Remember, a resolution solely depends on your perseverance to get to the truth. Keep up the good fight.

Given the value.... and yes chances are small...

Have you attempted to contact the shipping company again?

There have been cases of parcels being found after a few years.

Thanks for the advice. This reminds me that the carrier (La Poste
in France) sale by auction items that can't be attached to a sender
or a receiver, for instance when labels become detached in transit.
I'll contact them, who knows...

The only thing i know for sure is that the postwoman who used
to deliver the mail at that time got fired given the number of people
complaining for the loss of their mail...

That being said, i don't think she stole my coin on purpose. I was
thinking more of a neglect. They deliver with a bike and the sorting
sorter is several miles away...so might be into the ditch by the road...

This would be the most tragic of endings.

Am I missing something?
It was a high value coin, why wasn't this sent with DHL tracked next day delivery.
Always go for the most expensive delivery option when it comes to postage of high value items

Hi,

At that time 1BTC = 2.000 USD (approx), so it was already a high value coin, but nothing compared to the value of today.
That's what saddens me the most...

Ya, that is huge bummer. And to think that OP's coin could be in a ditch out in the middle of Europe or something somewhere. I can only imagine the kid or person who comes across such a coin the curiosity of researching it and finding out that they may well have just come across a small fortune, or even worse they peel the sticker and lose the keys or something awful like that, oh man it is very unfortunate for OP. I hope this somehow turns up for you OP! Don't give up on your search and definitely check with those postal carriers regularly in case it does pop up, it could happen!

Thanks for your kind words:)
Yes, i still hope that one day the coin will reappear somewhere....I recently checked and it has not been redeemed, it is still fund...
It is also possible that a neighbor got it. Indeed, i had package from the member Hox that  i got back in the very last moment: i got an Email saying a package as been delivery to my letter box. I went down the stars (i live in a bulding),
open my letter box...and nothing!!! I immediately gave a ring to the sorting center and they said the mailman will visit me after he finished his tour. He opened every letter box of each resident and found my precious package in an other one!!!

I should have been upset against him but i was so happy to get my precious package that i thanked him...
