1 Bitcoin currently costs 1182$
An ounce of gold is currently 1256$

Only 74$ to go. After that expect mainstream media news "Bitcoin is now more expensive than gold"

The price will go vertically up after that, dwarfing the 2013 high.

exactly this (of course with a little bit more zoom out is much better).
bitcoin price surpassing gold is only good if it puts bitcoin on some radars or possibly can make it a little bit more popular.

other than that, bitcoin hodlers such as me only care about how the price is moving up. and it has been beating gold all the way ever since i started investing in it.
the 100%-300% yearly rises bitcoin had in the past has no match Smiley

I doubt so. Bitcoin reached over $1200 and the mainstream media news channels/sites have not said a single word about it. Only small hobby/less professional news sites have reported about Bitcoin having set a record price. But then again, this will obviously get seen by traditional/high level investors, which I consider to be more of importance.

The dumps look very extreme and didn't do too much overall.

No matter how severe the dumps look in that graph, they are all short term and don't impact how the price is going up in the long term, as the charts posted here clearly shows. Bitcoin is strong due to the constantly increasing demand. Whatever dump we'll be experiencing, know that the demand will eat through all of these dumps eventually.

Just wait for the next week. Most of the working class will require a weekend to get themselves up to date to the events that happened this week. The mainstream media will react after that.

I dig the psychological value of this comparison.
However, there is how much gold above ground?
Perhaps, about 6 Billion oz, right, with each oz at $1256 right now?
This is vs 16.2mil btc now plus 4.8mil that will be mined by 2140.

About 370 times more gold oz than btcs (currently).

are you implying that bitcoin to match gold, need to be 370 times more higher? this is very diffuclt to achieve in this market, i can't see how bitcoin is going to hit $400k in value anytime soon, perhaps in 2-3 halving or maybe never

what dumps? there was a fluctuation under $1100, but it was a correction i guess, i think it's normal when you see a pump like this

This sound really positive attitude but i will wait for some dump rather than jumping in this bull run right now. I think we will see some correction upto 1050$ from current price range.  Wink

The correction went to 1110 last night, but it's over. Probably won't see another that big.

The pump and dump of bitcoins go side by side but i think there will be more increasein price, I think the next target for bitcoin price is to reach  2000$ and people wont sell less than that.

You could give https://1broker.com a try, but I'm afraid they are trading commodities but don't deliver them physically.

Regarding the gold equivalency we need to focus on "what's the price of gold". Taking an ounce looks like comparing Satoshis with pence. A 1Kg gold bar costs you a hefty 40413 USD.
Bitcoin will take a while reaching mid 5 digits.

Bitcoin beats gold because it's properties allows it to function more efficiently as money than gold or fiat could ever hope for.
