I was under an impression that transactions that are not valid, and can never enter the blockchain can't be initiated.
Could this be considered a bug?

I believe after speaking with a few different people, certain other coin account will reject non valid transfers ie not of the same type. Terracoin does not do this, and Terracoin addresses are also valid BTC addresses.
Someone mentioned that the Terracoin developers should address this, and that he was afraid of this happening.

Yes, the addresses have built-in error-detection, so that making up an address or even typoing a letter in a real address should be detected and the transaction will not be made.  Most of the alt-coins also have a specific unique format of the address, but Terracoin and BTC are indistinguishable.  I wouldn't be surprised if this happens again. Sad

BTC and TRC addresses and keys are the same. When he "sent my bitcoins to a TRC address", the transaction was recorded on the BTC block chain, so he actually sent them to a BTC address. TRC was never actually involved in the transaction. Remember that coins actually reside in the block chain and not in a wallet. BTC-e probably believed it was impossible to fix because they looked at the TRC block chain and found no transaction. However, since TRC addresses and keys are the same as BTC addresses, all BTC-e had to do was to get the private key from the TRC wallet and add it to the BTC wallet in order to access the coins in the BTC block chain.

I hope that explains it.

I think the whole story is interesting. I'm glad it all worked out.

Interesting. I don't know why Terracoin developer starts Terracoin's address with 1, not T.

That will cause a conflict with BTC address, glad it's sorted out now for OP.
