Compared to 9 out of 10 forums. I'm really impressed with the speed. Especially if you consider the amount of users here.
I wonder what their hardware and software setup looks like.

Yes, it's blazin' like fire at the moment. It was a tad slower during the recent DDoS attacks. Grin

Actually an advertising deal was struck with PIA in exchange for the server.
Cool. Is it hosted in the Netherlands?

Yes.

And when you say provided by, are they paying for the server or are we using forum funds to pay them for the server?

They're paying for it in exchange for some advertising.

Would you mind sharing some basic specs of the server?
Before:
- Core 2 Duo T7700 @ 2.4GHz
- 4 GB memory
- Slow hard drive

After:
- Xeon E31240 @ 3.30GHz
- 16 GB memory
- 2 SSDs in RAID 1

I think this'll be enough for a while. Smiley

The forum gets about 152 requests per second. I'm pretty happy with the performance. Even though it's a bad comparison due to the immense size difference, it's funny that the forum is usually faster and less error-prone than Reddit, a site with corporate support and professional programmers.

There was a period where Reddit had explosive growth while losing two competent sysadmins (link to the post of one of them complaining about Amazon) at the worst time in regards to their growth (not to mention this happened at same time as the whole debacle with Amazon's EBS system). That incident is used a lot to point out their problems. You're right though, even with competent sysadmins, they still have issues quite often. I often wonder if everything bad with reddit is often Amazon-related.

On a side note, I thought the recent AMA of a former Amazon worker was interesting. (this is just the highlights)

These forums are indeed really speedy and solid. Great work with the server, admins.
