Hello guys I am just getting into mining and already bought my first 2 antminer S9s. They are really loud, use up a lot of space, and have really inefficient cooling.

I can't find any examples on the forums of people modding the S9 for liquid cooling so I would like to take the lead on finding a solution. If anyone has a dead S9 hashboard that they are willing to part with I would be willing to buy one or you could donate it to the cause. Preferably you have a board with a few good chips on it.

I need advice on the best way to remove the heat sinks. On my S9s they are glued on with some kind of black glue.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Hot air will soften the epoxy enough to pop the heatsink off, but I'm not sure what it'll take to dissolve the epoxy off the chips. The black stuff's tough.

My 1st guess is the Vcore regulator shorted out.

I really wanted to 3 months ago but didn't roll it out because I didn't have the balls to burn (or dissolve in this case) $1k+ for this experiment. But it would be really exciting to see if anyone can make it a success.

To OP,

I did some research on radiator too. A good one for consideration is MO-RA3. Depending on your ambient, you may not need additional fans (truly silent). Even you do need some, you can set it up with 140mm low speed fans.
