I have been bouncing around an idea in my head about some crypto-related website. Maybe a gambling site, such as dice or a duel game. Maybe a crypto-related blog or a faucet? The only issue is, I don't have much money for this project, and I'm a novice at programming as well. What skillsets would be needed to code a site such as a dice or a faucet?
I might be able to get a friend of mine in this, who is a programmer, which would allow me to focus all my time on new ideas for the site, support and advertising.
Also, what kind of new site would you like to see? Maybe you are tired of all the existing blogs, and you want something new and fresh in the market? Maybe you are bored of regular dice sites, and want to see something better and more community-based?

Search open source projects, you don't need to build everything from scratch.
You don't need to be a programmer to set up a blog.

Something unique in gaming will cost you around $3k-10k usd, depending on exactly what you're looking for. Something less expensive, in the < $1500 range can be found in the services subforum on the board. There's lots of developers that are looking to build something or join up on a venture. Skill sets will vary depending on the platform, however in general you'll need someone familiar with LAMP stack development for the backend (Linux Apache Mysql Php) and then something for the frontend code, usually javascript/node js, html5. You need to know how to deal with bitcoin nodes or cryptocurrency nodes, so json and general api calls.

I know that a blog is easy, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for from this project. The dice site would be fairly easy to make using the Untitled Dice source code, but then again, why would anyone play there? There are so many good dice sites out there, such as Primedice. I've been thinking of using some parts of the Untitled Dice code to make a dice duel game, which remove me the need of a huge bankroll to sustain whales' bets. But even then, I would need a lot of programming to make it work. Any other ideas?

Based on what you have itemised above I will say what is needed now is just to learn what you really want to do taking into consideration your financial capacity. And even based on your response, you are already tilting towards a gambling site but I tell you, to build a brand that will compete with the already saturated market, its not cheap as the amount of work involved in the coding by be beyond what a friend can afford to do for free. Think well before delving into it.

Me and my friend have enough time (especially as long summer holiday coming up) to make a dice duel site. As for the money management, if people are concerned with how they can trust me (which I understand, as I trust nobody) I could use MoneyPot for the money-side of things. The dice market itself is very saturated, but there aren't many sites that have PvP games. People that start casinos just see big sites like Primedice and think like: Oh, Stunna has made millions, so I'll make a dice too rather than make a new type of game. My approach is not same as other casino starters. I like the idea of something community-based and PvP-type rather than the ordinary dice. This is, mostly because the dice would not work. As for the coding being hard, I sure believe you. The site is not in any kind of rush, however. It's not like I'm using my friend as a slave or anything, but rather as a business partner. We have worked together on a few previous projects in the CS:GO community, such as CSGOPoker, but that got shut down and sold to a new owner when Steam rolled the changes to their ToS.

I don't think live dice is the way to go. I got recommended that color dice game in my previous old thread, and I looked a lot into it. I think it's more of a game that kids would enjoy, rather than bigger bettors. That is exactly why under 18 year olds can play it, and it has low betting limits (the carnival version). I saw a lot of success in the CS:GO community with games such as PvP coinflip, dice duel, rock-paper-scissors and such. I have only seen one decent PvP game, and it's rock-paper-scissors on a new site that just launched recently. So I would assume that the PvP market has a lot of room for new sites launching. I reckon a PvP coinflip site with well placed chats, competitions and advertising would take off quite nicely, unlike a new dice site.

Based on what I have read so far and your responses I see you have stuff and ready to defend it with facts. That aside having stuff is not the only thing needed as that without backed by action is futility. Then the other things you will need are large finance because from the marketing to the review, then bonuses to attract users, its a whole lot of money.
Another is to form a team, in the sense that, aside from the coder and you as the administrator, you might want to need someone, who will want to help in the legal matters and he must have a perfect understanding of what the project is all about in other to advice accordingly...

The only outsider as a team member we need I'd say would be the legal advisor then. Though it might not be necessary, as my close relative is an expert in taxes and Finnish laws concerning money. As far as I know, the Finnish government doesn't require me to collect KYC from people that would play in my site, so I would only need to report my earnings to the Finnish IRC, and that would be enough for them. Laws and restrictions on running a bitcoin casino legally here is definetly something I would have to look more into, but I don't think that will come in the way of my project, as I have other ways of going around it (such as operating it from Lithuania, where the laws on gambling sites are pretty laid-back AFAIK). I see you are concerned about the money-side of things. Well, I'm not so much. I like the idea of a PvP site much more than a regular dice, exactly because I won't need a large bankroll. I have some advertising tricks planned ahead, and I'm looking forward to testing them in practise soon. If you are concerned about user funds, I will get a Trezor hardware wallet to safely hold customers' funds in cold storage.

- Matching engine
- Risk management system
- Accounting/audit system
- Wallet management
- Payment gateways
these are the most common weak pointd for a crypto related website. If you don't like to take risk, simply use open source or buy script from somewhere.

It's not that I don't like to take risks, but rather that I can't afford to do so. I don't have the funds to have a bankroll anywhere near the size Stunna or dooglus had. That's why I like the idea of a PvP site. There is very few of them, and they are mostly poorly made, and I don't have to lose my sleep because a whale is destroying my bankroll. - Matching engine
- Risk management system
- Accounting/audit system
- Wallet management

These are issues I definetly have to think a lot about, since they are vital for the site. If the site is made "half-ass", it will fail completely. PvP sites need a big playerbase, so there is someone to always play your games. That's why it's very important to have fast deposits, effortless withdrawals and a clean interface. Then there are other issues not related to the website itself, but rather my reputation and trust. As I am fairly new in the forum, I expect everyone to not trust me by default. That is certainly a big issue, when I need to achieve high traffic and a large playerbase from all timezones. But I guess that's something that comes naturally as the site grows. IIRC, everyone was doubting dooglus as well at the beginning, but all the doubts were gone when he granted a near-million-dollar withdrawal to a whale. Dooglus is definetly my hero in this forum, I really admire the way he ran Just-Dice. I actually read the entire Just-Dice thread. The way he ran his site is definetly how I want to operate my site as well.

Post on the services forum here on the board, upwork.com or freelancer.com and you'll get some responses for sure. If you haven't done so, write up a scope of work and sketch out what you kind of want it to look like and describe how it should function. Note that most of the developers are going to be in eastern europe and India/asia. I appreciate the offer, but I'm committed to my game at the moment Services forum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0You can see an example here of a light scope of work: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1527989.msg15407923#msg15407923Detail exactly what you are looking for and what you expect the deliverable should be. As an example, if you wanted a website with a sign-up process, specify that the sign-up process should send an email to confirm. Remember that while you may assume some functions are standard as a sign-up process, others will not assume so. So, make sure you detail exactly what you want your application to do. Don't forget to ask for after-support (to fix bugs) or installation support if you need it. If paying in Bitcoin, consider using escrow with a small deposit to the developer. I highly recommend OgNasty's escrow. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303281.0
