ridiculous fees from our conventional banking system.

Noticed:

One of the survivors has a fb page and is having issues with a cc based crowdfunding source due to excessive fees (5%).

"GoFundMe charges a flat fee of 5% on all donations collected. That means GoFundMe has already made $7,500 profit off of this tragedy. "*

https://www.facebook.com/supportjeffandfamily?fref=ts

*currently its doubled.

Suggestion:

We should contact him (and perhaps all the survivors) to create a bitcoin wallet or even a coinbase account this would not only get worldwide funds into his account but an amazing exposure of what bitcoin can do for anyone in need anywhere in the world.

I want to get alot of people to move on this and make it happen. Artificial limbs are not cheap.

Since most of the people interested in bitcoins are capitalist money-maker, only interested in speculation about its future price it is consistent, right?

If it helps people it seems a good idea and something the Bitcoin foundation and BBC may want to jump on too.  Be sure to explain how they go from BTC->Fiat though as learning about bitcoin is going to be the last thing on their minds at the moment.

I'd be happy to share the wallet address on my FB too.

Now that this is warming up.

I suggest messaging the profile owner directly to help him understand the global impact of accepting bitcoins and why it's different from paypal or any other method. You can post on the walls as well or the links but I see that as more for the benefits of other readers as your comment will get surrounded by paypal pushers.

Facebook also has a bitcoin app which may be easier for him to receive and at least share word to other fb users that it exists so posting it on his wall can also help with exposure.

I'll try to get a list of other survivors websites so we can help them out later today.

Fact: The Boston Bombing is number 1 news right now.
Fact: Bitcoins needs more positive exposure akin to Anonymous (which their recent anti child porn and other positive actions have imho made a difference) and what could be more positive (or redeeming) to bitcoin than helping Boston victims?
Fact: If enough bitcoins users made an impact on this the price will go up so capitalist should care if they know better.

I will be happy to donate generously as soon as Bitcoin is accepted. See, I want to donate directly to the victims, not to f*cking paypal or GoFundMe or credit card companies or all the other shitty middle men involved.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

One thing that I have done in cases like this is to contact the company directly and ask them to either wave or reduce their fee.  Don't talk to a customer service rep - ask for management.  A lot of times they will do it as they can write off the loss anyway.  If they won't, find one that will.

If enough people contact the family I don't see why they would not set it up. Let me know when you guys hear back from them. I haven't heard anything yet.

Anyone know a secure bitcoin fund raising platform? We should have one for cases like this or any international crisis.

I don't think it's wise to bombard the family about setting up a bitcoin account. One message is enough, they have other things to think about.

Who needs a platform when all you need to do is post a bitcoin address?

Use CoinBR to trade bitcoin stocks: CoinBR.com

The best place for betting with bitcoin: BitBet.us

Umm the family was complaining openly about not having a payment service that charges less than 5% and there are dozens of posts from people recommending paypal on their wall and nothing mentioning bitcoins. Yeah they need to be made aware of it and getting one message out of 1,000's won't make any impact.
